Right, but what GP meant to say was that obscurity is not sufficient as the ONLY layer of security. There might be some techniques that are perfectly sufficient (for example, encrypting all the user data with a password and storing a hash+s

Even though I'm not a researcher (yet; still doing my undergrad), this infuriates me to no end. I'd be glad to help any movement that attempts to break this by volunteering code and time.

This is something I'm wondering about too. I recently made a piece of software [1] that users can self-host (released under MIT). I also want to offer the exact same thing as a service to users who can't self-host and simply just

I created https://github.com/adtac/commento - it's lightweight and privacy-focused. It's written in Go and you run it in a Docker container.

If that's actually the case, I can see a Deletion-as-a-service business. "We thoroughly delete your account for you." The fact that I have to come up such mechanisms is a damning indictment of the way things are.

There wouldn't be a place for free and open software without him. I'm absolutely convinced of this -- he is a combination of good will, great programming talent, insane dedication who is not motivated by money. It's just a

I have enabled notifications on gitter (for a project I'm a maintainer of) when I'm directly mentioned. That's a legit use-case. But pretty much every other prompt has been obnoxious.

Basically a case of "I want it to behave exactly like the web, but don't call it that."

What's wrong with that? Atom aims to compete with Sublime and there's nothing wrong with a review comparing the two.

Mildly off-topic, but I've always wondered about having a non-fixed length address scheme: if there are 64 bits in the address, let the first 8 bits (64/8 = 8) be 1 and the 9th bit be 0. This way we encode the length of the addres

IMO that's a bad trade-off. You're going to be using your personal computer more than the time you spend switching computers. In that case it makes sense to customize your set up to fit you. How often do you get a new computer?

While that uses a similar exploit, it's not the one alas! The article I'm referring to used a rogue AP where the author essentially created a pineapple-like device (or something; I'm probably misremembering this part). Thanks
