The speedup is mostly because of using a faster library, not because of the language. I used py2many, a transpiler that can handle many simple language constructs and then modified the calls to json library to something that works. The hard

python has been about expressing ideas. Even if the language doesn't support some of the concepts natively, it's useful to express it in python so it could be effectively transpiled into a language that does. This is what py2many

Except that this can't do auto complete in the URL bar on major browsers, including Firefox. Autocomplete works if you visit localhost:port in the browser. I've asked around. It seems like an anticompetitive behavior on the part o

A week later. Compare the engagement metrics between the two posts in question. They were both flagged and then unflagged. A blog post with exact timelines and some graphs could help understand what happened.

Ah, Thank you. I didn't check back after noticing that it was flagged. Same as this one.

Moderators unflagging this makes a lot of sense. I felt the threads about the assassination attempt a week ago deserved similar treatment for the historical relevance. Whatever is done here should be done with a consistent set of principles

Why not do this at a higher level on the python source itself? I ask because z3 has been used for type inference (Typpete) and for solving equations written in Python.

clock_gettime_nsec_np() seems interesting in that it returns a u64. I proposed something similar for Linux circa 2012. The patch got lost in some other unrelated discussion and I didn't pursue it. struct timeval is a holdover from the

py2many does python-esque to both Go and Rust. The larger problem is building an ecosystem and a stdlib that's written in python, not C. Use ffi or similar instead of C-API.

Just tried it on meta.ai Answers as "Seer Gilligan" with sources. Guessing someone fixed it up in the last few hours. As the race to replace traditional web search heats up, whoever is quicker at updating the model with RLHF or mo

I didn't mean anything nefarious here :) Since Google would rather have the best brains in the industry build the next search indexing algorithm or the browser, they didn't have the time to invest human capital into building a bet

That was done in 2005. But the task of auditing the supply chain to ensure that every single shared library you ever linked with was compiled a certain way was still hard. Nothing prevented an intern or a new employee from checking in a lib

Google didn't have a Linux distribution for a long time (the one everyone used on the desktop was an outdated rpm based distro, we mostly ignored it for development purposes). What existed was a x86 to x86 cross compilation environment

I wasn't talking about functional problems. It was a simple observation that big companies were not going to convince Linux distributors to add frame pointers anytime soon and that what those distributors do is relevant. All of the com

I was at Google in 2005 on the other side of the argument. My view back then was simple: Even if $BIG_COMPANY makes a decision to compile everything with frame pointers, the rest of the community is not. So we'll be stuck fighting an u

If you write python sufficiently like rust, you should be able to transpile it into actual rust. I spent a few months last year writing py2many. But was surprised by how ChatGPT outperformed it. I do however believe that there is room for a
