They are limited to prevent fires. They sit behind the breakers so any power they feed in allows more current on the cables before the breakers trip.

I have 2kW of panels on my balcony and 4kWh of batteries. I'm happy with the setup. I expect it to pay for itself in just a few years. The only thing I wish it had is open APIs to control the inverter and the batteries, ideally over bl

There are very few purely capitalistic countries. All countries that I can think of use taxes and regulations to influence market equilibrium. „letting the market figure it out“ is usually the political expression for „I like the current st

There is a bit about this in Greg Egan‘s Disspora, where a parallel is drawn between maths and art. It is not difficult to automate art in the sense that you can enumerate all possible pictures, but it takes sentient input to find the beaut

The batteries where 800€, the panels about 400 and the inverter I think around a hundred (all from Amazon). All the stuff I needed to attach the panels to the balcony and the cables where surprisingly expensive.

I guess I consume most of it. There are 4kWh of batteries connected to the panels. I set my dishwasher and my washing machine to run when production is high.

A Solar panel produces about 250W peak per square meter. A parking spot can thus produce maybe three kW. A whole parking lot is probably enough for one or two chargers.

If you don’t want trees near parking cars that essentially prevents trees in cities, since cities are practically one big parking lot.

My balcony solar produced an average of 5kWh per day in the last month. That is about as much as I consume.

Solar panels are not that difficult to make. It’s just difficult to make them cheaper than China.

There is to my knowledge no reason to assume that complicated physics experiments that heat water to run a steam engine will be much cheaper than fission power plants, unfortunately.

The relevant cost for the buyer is how much they need to pay to obtain the object. So far we haven't discovered any primordial antimatter deposits that we could mine, so creating it from scratch is the only way.
