I think Craig Bohren wrote in one of his books, that to get anything calculated and done the waves are all you need. Particles are nice for some kind of visualization, but they don't really help getting things done. I liked that. Inste

The Logarithmic derivative is also something that is surprisingly fundamental. (ln(f))' = f'/f In function theory you use it all the time. But people rarely notice, that it related to a logarithm. Also the functions that have

Interesting article. I have been telling people for more than a decade now to use the exterior product (and e.g. get rid of the clutter of strange Minus-Signs and div, grad and rot in Electrodynamics). And I was really happy to see that peo

One difference between Monitors and TV used to be that Monitors used RGB Subpixel-Layout and TVs used BGR. (i.e. TV panels are upside down) Configuring subpixel-layout per monitor is something that most OS won't allow. So if you use se

I'd still want to have leading commas. If the items in the list are long IF(...), maybe uses several lines and maybe contain SELECTs it's hard to see a missing trailing comma. At the start they're all lined up well, and it&#x

I updated my comment... On the first try the code-formatter here played some tricks with me. The line before the Code has to be empty to get correct formatting.

Adding something to the end is the most common thing to do. And changing the start is extremely rare - it's anyway special because you usually put it in the line with the SELECT.

I feel the problem. When coding (not only in SQL) you often have to add something to the end of a list, and it is annoying that the end of the list is always special. You can't just copy some line and move it there. Also when moving th

When looking into the physics of infrared-absorption of CO2, I found papers about that quite interesting. Maybe climate change is not a political problem and not a technology problem - maybe it's a mental issue. Around my place people

About a decade ago I tried to use random() and I found its behaviour to be very random... The changelogs of all databases I used later contained bug fixes on this subject. (Sybase, Microsoft) I'm not sure if standards today are consist

Working from home has advantages, but my boss also cancelled home-office. One big customer of us went for extensive home-office. And since then that company seems to be paralyzed. Workers there are openly doing personal stuff during video m

I - a white German - got verbally attacked in the subway of Berlin by a man because I looked somehow foreign to him... So even being white and German sometimes doesn't help... Being from the wrong side of the village can be bad enough.
