Pretty cool. Perfect response to the Microsoft Social Connector ( http://blogs.msdn.com/outlook/archive/2009/11/18/announcing-... ) - which is typical Microsoft, no marketplace, no details, I can't even find the SDK! EDIT: of course - rig

Conferences are only worth it if you're going to network the hell out of them. It's kinda like business school, you're not going to learn a lot, but you will get pissed with some people who will become friends and help you later on in life

Ah, right. That's what acceleration is for. It all depends on how the acceleration clause is written into the agreement, but for founders, they usually have a 100% vesting upon exit clause - while the acquirer may require them to stay on (

Founder's receive equity, not options. So, once you sign the papers, you get x% of the company every y months. I'm not quite sure I understand your question, but I guess what you're saying is what happens if one of the co-founders leaves be

Not really. You're going to wait a year too, ideally ALL co-founders should vest at the same time. Usually, the 1 year cliff is post-incorporation. Although, if he's okay with it - you could probably get away with vesting in 8 months...

Good advisors are worth 0.5-1.0% of the company. Much more would dilute your option pool (if you're going to end up raising VC eventually.)

4 year vesting with 1 year cliff for all employees (including co-founders) is pretty standard. As is acceleration upon exit.

Pretty awesome how he kept going even when they had no money in the bank. Most other people would've given up. That and it is amazing how employees stuck around without getting paid make me want root for them even more!

How do people afford to go to SXSW? ~$500 ticket + ~$500 airfare + ~$1k hotels = ~$2k of expenses that could let you do a lot of other things? Even sharing hotels and/or crashing on a friends couch wouldn't work too well...

Interesting that pg is second only to Ron Conway, in number of investments (I'm guessing this is YCombinator vs. Ron Conway Inc.) 190 vs 129 given that YC has only been doing it for 5 years. EDIT: link to table: http://bwnt.businessweek.co

Hah. The question is what happens when you fail. Obviously, if you have 100-250k, you can hire 2 people. But then what happens if the biz fails? You created 2 (probably more jobs) and now you're going to get kicked back to your own country?

Dave, I think the big issue most people on here are having, is the fact that if you fail to either create 5 jobs or revenue of $1MM or a larger VC round, you get kicked back to your own country despite having invested 2 years and all the ef
