This is what happens when you don't use a proper capital-S Stack. Probably they weren't even using Kubernetes and a separate multi-cloud management DB for monitoring their data pipeline ingest.

Hopefully they thought of that and made the bore narrow enough that it won't fit.

Makes good cover for naval intelligence activities though. Just don't assume because you see a ship "mining manganese nodules" from the seabed that you should build your own ship with your own money.

For Reddit, Twitter, Pinterest and Imgur the website is almost unusable on mobile when not logged in. Log out, don't save your password in the autofill. Now you have to log in to get your fix, which is now a hassle.

Very many older (and not even that old) tube stations have glossy tiled walls[1], presumably because they're easy to clean with just a cloth. Choosing bare concrete looks cool, and you don't need to pay a tiler to install them, bu

My in-laws watch so much TV, it's stultifying. I start getting antsy from lack of brain engagement if I have to spend too long sitting there. Build a model, read a book, write a book (or write a Wikipedia article, or a wikibook chapt

Somehow once you get to a certain scale it becomes its own defense. "Oh we can't police that, we're really just that big, don't you know". But the small guys better watch out, no excuses for them.

Compared to deep space, Mars is positively luxuriously bountiful in many ways. You can even go outside with just a compression suit and a tank of oxygen and there's plenty of radiation shielding material just lying there on the floor (

Leetcode is taken seriously too by some. There's a thick layer of Ark B types that think they're extremely useful, because when you just have a list tick boxes, you don't need to think about it and no one can blame you for fo

For things like inverters for example, yes, you have to measure things to decide when to turn on (say) transistors based on that information. You have to carefully design it if you want to be able to drive the exact same H-bridge in reverse

Good to see that technology-based executive function theft (i.e. "our inconvenient corner case is all y'all's problem not ours") doesn't just affect individuals.

Fundraiser with matching no less. Wikipedia doesn't need any more money, the Internet Archive is a far better use for a donation. And they don't use fake-urgency manipulation to beg for it either.

I think in German some smashed up sentence like "ich haben gegesst der Abendessen" would also be understandable no matter how brutally you fluff the verb's conjugation and gender of the noun.

That is how it works: it's regression to the mean. If you expect a major hurricane every n years and you didn't have one this year, the expected likelihood of one next year (1/n) is greater than what you actually got this y
