I sat on the homepage for a minute trying to think of something I wanted to buy. You should offer some suggestions. You're making me choose a category before I see the results? And also confusing me with text about getting spammed? I thin

Successful online poker players have managed to sell their e-books for nearly $1000 (see http://www.balugapoker.com/books.html or http://dailyvariance.com/let-there-be-range.html , for example). I really doubt they're doing the same volu

I disagree. Luck may play a role in one's success, but it's not the deciding factor. The problem is that people like to play off their success as just "being lucky". Why? Because this answer is a lot quicker and sexier than explaining to so

I didn't read the Gladwell article, but it sounds like he's a victim of hindsight bias [0]. It's easy to think that there was less risk involved when reflecting back on someone's decisions after they succeeded . [0] http://en.wikipedia.or

I found that paper really interesting, but didn't see multi-layered abstractions mentioned at all. It just said people must be able to deal with the "meaninglessness" of the syntax of computer programs. Anyway, I'd love to read more about t

The article only talks about how tuition hikes affect the very poor and the very rich. But what about the middle class? If the distribution of parental household income is normal, then wouldn't hikes significantly hurt a large portion of co

I really like stuff without lyrics that's fairly repetitive. Some examples: http://www.songite.com/#c1f21f .

What exactly is 'day dreaming'? The author seems to make up his own definition for it, interpreting it to include activities such as reading Wikipedia and watching YouTube videos. Personally, I find many of the tasks he mentioned too intera

Some people claim learning Dvorak will actually slow down your typing speed on a QWERTY keyboard. Since typing is mostly done with muscle memory, knowing two layouts creates a bit of conflict when your brain tries to decide which finger to

You have to realize who Gladwell's audience is. I think you're severely underestimating the number of people who have done any research into IQ studies. Now, you could argue that he is not rigorous enough in his arguments, and while this is

Gladwell popularized the "10,000 hours rule", but he didn't invent it. It's originally from a paper by K. Anders Ericsson on "deliberate practice" [1]. It cites a ton of other research in the area and is definitely worth reading if you like

I wonder why Google isn't offering a DOM Storage implementation of this. Versions of Firefox 2 and later offer built-in support for WHATWG's DOM Storage API, which would (theoretically) allow users to have this functionality without install
