No one is suggesting that old books be thrown away. When you take into account the shear number of books being published each year (and the number is growing) it's physically impossible to have even a single copy of every book ever publish

Recommendation engines are getting pretty good at this. It's always going to be hit or miss no matter what method you invoke. Friends, browsing, engines... nothing will always be perfect.

While on the whole I agree with much of what Seth is saying (the library is basically a warehouse of old books) I don't think the library itself as we see it today is going anywhere or will change in any significant way until e-books become

Or, better question, why is it considered piracy to torrent a television show that is sent over the air to anyone with antenna?

That and the issue of being forced to scroll through a potentially long page to get to the bottom, which is where the information you're actually after is located. Major usability fail.

At the risk of feeding a troll, are you seriously saying that society is suffering because developers give stuff away? If so, you really need to take another look at the world get your priorities adjusted.

I've been writing code for over 10 years and have been functioning on between 4 and 6 hours of sleep a night and have been quite successful. Not saying I'm one of the 'elite' either just my personal experience.

Out of curiosity, why doesn't everyone dislike 'marketplace'? A marketplace is where people sell things, CodeSchool sells things therefore it's a marketplace.
