C or C++ are probably the best choice since they allow for high performance, low memory footprint, and easy creation of binary packages suitable for distribution. Java is also an option and Java programs can be compiled down to machine code

I actually spent some time using NILFS2 as a root filesystem on an SSD, but I could never get it to work properly, mostly due to lack of documentation and the added complexity of using a daemon to manage your filesystem. It'd be nice to see

I spent some time earlier fiddling with FreeBSD 8.1 RC and was really blown away by how much more advanced ZFS is compared to every other filesystem I've ever used. It's feature rich and it's very intuitive to use and configure. You don't n

An ARM-based Windows server would be desirable for anyone who is already using a Windows server and wants to maximize their performance per watt. I'm not sure if ARM is powerful enough to support a next generation console platform. The curr

I can attest to this. My iPhone 3G user experience is atrocious on iOS4. Things are very, very choppy and I spend a lot of time waiting for things to load. Actions as simple as hitting a key while typing a text message can cause the phone

Unfortunately, the map seems to be limited to "there are some 'top secret' things in this general area." I was hoping for something more comprehensive, although I realize that in some instances there may not be a whole lot of information.

Is there anything cooler or more badass than writing software used in space ? Whenever I'm told that a piece of software isn't fit for "mission critical applications," I think of NASA. I'd love to help out with this, but I'm afraid I lack

I think you're referring to the belief that it takes 10,000 hours of practice in order to "become a world class expert in anything." This "10,000 hour rule" was made famous by the book Outliers and is primarily based on the research of K.

I found the movie didn't make a whole lot of sense at times. It felt like the writer cut a lot of corners when it came to the whole logical coherency of the plot. Maybe if we blow something up they won't notice! The plot was entertaining an

I would recommend Ruby, too. Even though I don't write large programs or webapps in Ruby, I use it to write the occasional script to glue different things together. I think that there's probably more (practical) benefit to be had with Ruby
