I think both sides here are right. there have been considerable advances in safety technology in the last 20 years, especially in avoidance systems. these improvements have unfortunately been counteracted by larger and larger vehicle sizes,

Granted, but human drivers are also unsafe. achieving an order of magnitude better safety than a human is a much lower bar than perfection.

anything with a 24v rail has much more power budget/bulk capacitance than most small embedded devices... so what worked there may not work well in other more common cases

When you're making an electronic device that you will be selling millions of, the onus is on you to do your homework in verification testing.

If anyone is looking for a good introduction to using (FDM) 3d printing for production, this is a great video of how super-car manufacturer Koenigsegg approaches them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw6cs7opvzA The key to

I work in a lab that has a large variety of printers from hobby grade to Stratasys FDM and resin SLA, polyjet. You're right that the stratasys machines are unimpressive in their quality and precision; I can get a better end part in man

The vast majority of FDM filaments will not be water tight. I'd recommend sealing with an epoxy coat after printing and sanding.

A standard footprint might not make sense, but a standard format for distributing component pad placement definitely does. Most ECAD systems already have tools in place to generate proper landing pad offsets from footprint. And you're

You're not the only one. I also like a bit of a bezel or "chin" on my phones, because it makes holding the device with one hand for e.g. taking photos much more secure.

The children shouldn't take any of the blame - that falls on the parents and society that have allowed things to come to this point. We are faced with technology that is designed to be as addictive as possible, and unleashing it on the

I disagree, if you look at any of the Waymo videos you can see they have great recognition of every car, pedestrian, and obstacle within 100 meters of the car, and most of that data (point cloud lidar/radar at the very least) would wor

I think your response time calculations are wildly wrong. The LIDAR sensor[1] being used here can pick up targets up to 120m away. I'm not sure about the RADAR or vision systems also in place, but even LIDAR alone should have been able

You wouldn't need two different cameras, just one camera shooting HDR video (alternating between over/underexposing the frame so that no information is clipped) to get a clear image at all exposure levels. Eyeballs are pretty good

The main efficiency boost is using a helicopter style rotor over a quadrocopter - the larger propeller means greater efficiency. Obviously a great deal of time is spent on weight reduction. And finally the max range is one direction, until
