Why would that make more sense than profit per employee or (sub)contractor per hour if we’re trying to measure efficient use of human capital?

Not at all. The Soviet Union was a self-proclaimed multi-ethnic state that was only Russian in the sense that the Russian soviets were the largest and dominated political life.

(From the article) Trains need sand, water, coolant, and other materials for normal operation. These need to be regularly resupplied (at depots). Hence, a typical system would be to dedicate each locomotive engine to a stretch of track (the

Civil engineers also have professional associations and certification boards backing them up in most jurisdictions whereas we do not. We don’t have anything to appeal to when we go to our boss with ethical concerns besides, well, our sense

I'll concede that the story is different when you're relying on commercial software that you've purchased to implement an algorithm correctly, but in the limited case of replicating results (whether they're flawed or not

Why should we assume that being one or two generations removed from subsistence farming implies that a user is naive? There are plenty of naive persons worldwide who grew up in middle class households in the West who are just as naive. I do

This seems exceptional for Velodyne to come out with a statement like this directly from a spokesperson. I would expect a supplier to be more restrained before throwing a large (and growing) customer under the bus like this.

I interpreted "the workplace" as him referring narrowly to white collar work (either in an office doing clerical/technical work or in a mobile setting like a salesperson).

I've never really understood why this is hard for people, especially in the era of Github where anyone and everyone can open an issue or pull request and generally be taken seriously.

That seems like the only way out of this mess. Reading this, there's not a good reason to not sell user data to interested third parties if the only consequences are getting your app removed and your account suspended.

None of these should conflict with Anaconda (or at least Continuum conda, I'm not that familiar with what else is out there) unless you put the conda root bin directory on your path.

I'm not sure how much I buy most of what you're saying beyond in loco parentis causing a ballooning in staff and legal costs. Title IX related activism is a relatively new phenomenon, and I don't think we can attribute older

I bet what OP is seeing is in response to that. Detroit is likely a much more common search, so to keep that populated, they just collapsed all of Dearborn into it.

This also isn't necessarily true. Take the example of TensorFlow. You build a representation of the computation you want to run, and then you can run nearly the whole thing end-to-end in native C++ using Eigen data structures, with occ

I think you're coming into this with a lot of baggage. "Vulnerable" isn't necessarily subjective, e.g. "poor populations are vulnerable to diabetes" is a statement that evidence can be brought to bear on.
