> Why is that unfair? Because PHP isn't actually used like that. Most engineers use frameworks (like Symfony, Zend, Yii, Cake, Laravel etc.) or at least components of these frameworks if they work on something very complex. NIH is a

Both Youtube and Disqus (just to mention bigger names) started delegating heavier tasks to Go, instead of Python. So yes, this case can be made for most high level languages.

I think that people defending PHP are getting a point you (and OP) are missing: both PHP (the language) and its ecosystem matured a great deal in the last 2-3 years. A lot of good ideas were either implemented into the language or ported ov

Yeah, I'm getting the feeling that the OP has no idea of PHP frameworks (or anything that has happened with PHP in the last 5+ years for that matter), and prefers to throw the baby out with the bathwater because of this.

I would say Python and Ruby but Javascript is getting more popular as a first language, I think mostly because it's easy to make something that looks like something.

What about the FUD storm about Wayland that Canonnical released? When Mir was announced Canonnical and Shuttleworth basically shat on every Wayland developer. They even edited and/or removed their statements later on, it was so bad.

PHP 5.5 may be great but a lot of people in the real world still don't use namespaces and other things introduced in 5.3. That is why people are always calling out PHP because most of the language and most of its developers appear to b

I'm stuck on ST version 2 because a plugin I bought and use daily (Sublime FTP) doesn't work with it yet. What's the point of having a great editor if the ecosystem is this crappy? Guess that concludes my great closed source
