I think that was the conclusion the OP arrived to actually: for a hexagonal application you don't need Rails anymore. Hence the "Rails is gone" in the title.

That's what functional tests are for. But if you're doing TDD there's no point in constantly running your functional/acceptance tests.

Well, one thing I learned from all this recent TDD related discussion is that almost nobody is aware of this book [1] and the entire school of TDD it spawned. [1] http://www.amazon.com/Growing-Object-Oriented-Software-Guide.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but one of the points of using dummy persistence is testing. You can delay using a database for a long time this way, have tests that finish quickly etc. Doing this within the confines of a Rails like MVC is ne

Of course you can overarchitect software. But there's also more discussion to be had on this subject other than "OMG looks like Java, OP sucks".

Probably all of them. Making this many changes in 3 months in a company the size of Microsoft seems unbelievable. Especially considering how anti-OSS they've been in the past.

I don't understand how anything on HN that discusses a more complex software architecture is immediately called J2EE/enterprisy and dismissed. Is this because the majority of the community is self thought? Or is this because mos

Like I said, building a Hackintosh desktop is as easy as building a Windows one. If you want to install OS X on a random PC that's laying around the house, the outcome will of course be different.

It's trickier to get OS X working on a laptop, but building a Hackintosh desktop is quite easy. A lot of motherboards are entirely compatible, while everything else (CPU, RAM, storage) works anyways.

> Angular solves more than the UI problem Hence my question. I feel like for some apps I don't need 60% of what Angular has to offer (routing, controllers, modules etc.) I would be satisfied with just directives. Which are probably

Would you recommend using React instead of Angular for JS heavy areas of a website that is built with a server side framework (like Rails, Django etc.)? I developed a rather complex SPA with Angular recently and I cannot go back to the ghet

From my POV: as soon Mono becomes a first class citizen (starting with a robust, cross platform IDE to hosting on Linux without hassle/shortcomings) I'm sold. Until then, everything .NET is a non starter because I don't care

Even if the T430 and T230 generation changed the keyboard, the Thinkpad line only tuned sour recently IMO, with the T440 and T240. They removed the trackpoint buttons, changed the layout and made upgrading a real pain: you now have to take

Yup, Laravel is a great starter framework. Like jafaku said, it uses a lot of Symfony components under the hood so it will be familiar territory if you decide to try out Symfony one day. Be sure to check out Jeffrey Way's Laracasts, it

Well, I think it's because Ruby has borrowed a lot of features from Lisp (and Clojure is also a Lisp). Here's an article that argues that it is actually an acceptable Lisp: http://www.randomhacks.net/articles/

It is unfortunate indeed, because it's not just the software that is great, but the surrounding community as well who create a lot of great tools like phpSpec, Behat etc.

Symfony is the best thing to happen to PHP in a long time and the guys at SensioLabs are doing a lot of great things. It wasn't on HN because HN still thinks PHP equals Wordpress/Drupal and those codebases are horrible.

I specifically use dumb to mean that controllers should know as little as possible about the business logic. They should just mediate between requests and responses. EDIT: dumb not dump.
