This is a complete misunderstanding of what is happening in higher education. The increase in tuitions for need-blind schools like Brown is essentially forced donations for the families that can afford to pay. Everyone is already given fina

Yeah exactly. This signaling protocol doesn't really matter, and both SIP and XMPP to me are way over engineered and super inefficient- silly that they're text based at all. Essentially like HTTP 1.0 and 1.1 vs HTTP/2 - we ju

Lots of confusion on this thread. SIP never handles actual voice traffic. It is just a signaling protocol used to initiate the ICE process of actually establishing the connection, either a direct p2p connection or a relayed connection using

SIP is just the signaling protocol. The actual NAT traversal really takes place in ICE, which uses STUN. ICE does the heavy lifting though.

Blocking the domain is not an effective step. Every censorship circumvention tool's domain is blocked, except for ones that aren't popular and so are essentially unknown. As with many other areas, half the battle is just entering

I totally disagree with the previous commenter. The real wow with your app comes from installing it, and the barrier is fairly low. Granted it crashed somewhere in the setup between installing expo and sketch, but wow the real time updates

It's not a matter of hiding the fact that you're using Tor, it's a matter of whether it bypasses censors or not. There's a big difference between those two. Even if a censor is able to detect that an individual node is r

Unlike Outernet, this is also actually deployed in the field and works at scale.

Really? Remember Lantern is only an HTTP proxy. It can't access web sites that are blocked from your work?

Yeah great question. The short answer is that we'll ultimately allow give mode users to control what sites are proxied through them. In Lantern 2.x so far we've actually stripped this functionality entirely as a temporary measur

We recently migrated repositories when we ported things to Go, and this got lost in the process. I just added it back in!

That's certainly the big picture goal -- to build a decentralized network at the application layer that systematically removes points of control, with censorship being one of those points of control and a useful starting point.

There are no known cases of people getting arrested simply for bypassing censors. Anonymity in the Tor context purely means anonymity from network observers learning your IP, not from network observers learning whether or not you're ru

Adam Fisk from Lantern here. The big problems with Tor for a lot of censored users are: 1) Download size 2) Speed Especially in a country like Iran where bandwidth is limited, the download size of the Tor Browser alone is enough to

Everyone can just use Lantern ( https://www.getlantern.org ). They already are, but in greater numbers since the Shadowsocks announcement ( https://github.com/trending ).

At Lantern ( https://www.getlantern.org ) we make censorship circumvention software that shares some similarities with Shadowsocks but that also uses p2p. Since the @clowwindy announcement we're the #3 trending repository on

Anyone have an example of good cert verification in Java? The concept at https://github.com/iSECPartners/ssl-conservatory is great, but it needs examples in more languages. Our case is pretty weird (some self-signed certs between peers, c
