Came to say exactly that. It is abusive, particularly of younger players.

As someone who has been through a long, complex migration... very interesting company idea! Kudos.

https://qz.com/2023032/how-much-energy-does-bitcoin-use/ Thanks for making me look at this. We should ban cryptocurrencies.

I don't love the firebombing, but think it was stupid of the Hague to criticize actions taken after said country attacked others. Wars you start you do not get sympathy for.

"Decision fatigue" is an apt phrase. Reminds me of Joel Spolsky's old essay on classic Windows help asking what kind of help db install I wanted ("compact", etc.) -- to which no normal user ever had an answer. Don&#

Yeah. The country that ended a long and terrible war. Fake moral high ground is aggravating.

I agree, but the law does have to consider the very different risk profile some customers present. As has been pointed out, adult businesses have to deal with shame and a lot of fraudulent chargebacks. The reality is that they are much more

Yeah, this is a fair point. I think it would make sense to require them to offer services, but let them charge a rate that allows them to make similar margins as on other business.

You're assuming the government won't just ban it entirely.

Might be an age issue. When you get older, small font sizes are problematic. It's rude of sites to use them, IMO.

Thank you for articulating my (limited) experience. It was a very leaky abstraction. I remember thinking "If this is it, Python wins."

Which is a reminder: If you are going to do unethical things, make sure you can prove that your bosses ordered it. Otherwise, in addition to being a rat, you will likely twist in the wind.

Thanks for the link. I'm grateful for the verge link too, though, because the NYT paywall reduces the effect of sharing NYT links. (I'm an NYT subscriber, but lots of people aren't.)

Do we have any examples where such an initiative, starting at the government level, has worked?

My ex-wife (who was with me for decades) tagged me as an existentialist early on, and I guess it was true. I don't really understand how we can see the universe another way, without lying to ourselves: bad things happen, and nothing is

No more Nvidia shield recommendations, that's for sure. The execs who made this decision should be punished. They won't be. But I think this has convinced me to move my mail and give up on Google.

This is a good thing. Even though my shop has mostly moved on from Java (to Python and other things), we still run plenty of software that depends on it. I wonder how badly Oracle's attempt to monetize Java is going.

My father, who used to testify at various hearings (he was a physicist) used to make this argument. I think it kind of misses a key point: People would much rather deal with N deaths a year than deal with a range with an average of N - k, b
