We developers sometimes struggle with the distinction. The point of laws and regulations is usually not to make fraud technically impossible, but increase the cost and/or risk of getting caught. People still use locks on doors even tho

The sad truth is that it's much easier to make money on people who are less savvy and not good with money. They are less likely to switch, more likely to take a loan or overdraft, and have to pay higher interest rates.

The world has changed a lot since 1987, so this post-colonial mindset might need revisiting. I don't know about cotton mills, but now the biggest steel manufacturer in the world is ArcelorMittal, an Indian company. On the other hand, B

Just a random example: I personally consider obsession with anime weird, but kind of cool at the same time. Are you sure that you cannot name anything you would consider both weird and cool?

Thanks for a thoughtful reply (upvoted), but have you looked at the library in question? The code is minified, but there is not much obfuscation going on: https://js.stripe.com/v3/ Most of your examples are quite low-l

Interesting question, since the web used to exist and work just fine before online advertising. I'm not saying that we should go back in time, but claiming that ads are a requirement for the web to exist is a slight overstatement.

There's no need to rely on "security by obscurity". Stripe.js is just a thin client-side library everybody can analyse, so they might as well be fully transparent when it comes to data collection. I don't see the point o

You can do that using Stripe test environment and test cards without any fees. Refunds can take over a week to get processed by some banks, so testing on live data doesn't sound like a great idea. But even if you have to do a couple of
