I think it's possible to burn out working on things you think are important but that are chronically underfunded or ignored. For example, I can imagine working on cleantech or green NGOs only to be consistently frustrated that people d

I got a chance to work with a lightfield camera for a class project a few years before Lytro shipped its first cameras, so I was sad to see it struggle as a consumer product. Can you shed more light on what the article should have written?

Is there more benefit to publishing a company’s design system than maybe some recruiting benefit? Is it about giving back to the design community or something IP/trademark related?

The "Zero to One" wisdom is that lots of competition means low margins for the business. It's very difficult to afford much more than minimum wages for your sandwich shop employees. That's part of why you don't see

If the signal transmission worked at 400 microns, I would say that your feature size argument would be a good reason to consider other explanations, but they explicitly show that such a gap prevents the signal from being transmitted. Inst

Looking at the paper [0], particularly Figure 4, it looks like they cut slices then stick them back together again. This allows the signal to propagate (4.B). But when a gap of 400 microns is added (4.C), the signal doesn't propagate.

There are a couple of scenarios that might be helpful to consider, as they are examples of mental discontinuity in use today. I cannot convince you of the semantics of "not you" vs "still you", because I think this quest

Given that an early death is only possibly prescribed in cases where a patient is terminally ill (as determined by two physicians), where a patient is of sound mind, and is often in pain, it can be a reasonable alternative to a lot of the (

Though I'm not sure I buy into their "winners have always won" hypothesis, I do find the "success by association" part interesting. This usually is discovered in the interview process, but how can it be better disco

It might slip through the USPTO, but it would be a pretty flimsy patent, as it wouldn't pass the test for enablement. At least, that's my understanding when I was consulting our lawyers for a provisional patent. https://

Do you have to pay $10 per server you set up? Also, by acting as the ISP, it also gets to be more protective of its log data than an outside provider might be. It's not that an outside ISP couldn't provide the same level of servic

Cloud credits aren't a replacement for local servers. Things I got to try at MIT that would be a lot harder on AWS: - set up a TOR exit node - set up a single-system image cluster across five 1U servers - set up a ZFS box with RAID-Z a

Actually, it's not clear to me if FastECC is saying that it works on 1M blocks together as a unit, in which case they would be the same as the shards. If that's the case, it does make this a totally different class of thing--what

They are pretty different. Blocks are like blocks in a filesystem or on a disk, while shards are like RAID stripes/mirrors. 2^20 blocks would make for a pretty small datastore, depending on what your needs are, and seems a more serious

I find TeXmac's equation editor to be an even faster WYSIWIG UI than LyX's. For example, a λ is just 'l'+tab. Simarly, you can cycle through other symbols. For b: b->β-> Sadly, TeXmacs hasn't gotten as much lo
