In the early 90s my daily college paper had a dot matrix printer for the AP news feed. My last year I think they discontinued the service. Editors would take the stories and type them into our system again. The agony was mitigated by the

Speaking of energy use. Microsoft is literally in talks to restart a nuclear plant where they will buy all the power[1]. It happens to be "Three Mile Island" plant [2] https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-

It’s Mac only, which means it follows the Mac UI conventions and is probably, should run faster and is integrated into the OS a little better. I’m paying for jetbrains now. I’m on Linux but it’s clearly a non-native application, which has

I’ll second p5.js and the coding train video series. They are quite good, fun and more advanced than than the videos make them out to be. P5 also has an online dev environment which is good enough. If you create an account you can save stu

My mom was a German / English technical translator in the US. At one point she said those Germans need to decide, English or German. I guess the French from time to time make French words for those with English roots. Though the Germ

I played a little informally in the 80s. Even young me knew it never seemed to be a realistic portrait of the past world, or claimed to be. Way too many dragons compared to the historical record. the monster manual seemed to be a mash up

I always think to a professor that was consulting on some civil engineering software. He found a bug in the calculation it was using to space rebar placed in concrete, based on looking at it was spitting out and thinking that looks wrong.

It’s wasteful because it contains a chip to verify the cable’s fee was payed to Apple. They’re small but there are a lot of them and they are uneccessary and annoying when they fail and you can’t charge your device.

We use Vega lite for our web base graphs at work. We love the “export as svg” feature. It’s by the same people but with fewer options but easier to set up. Like all graphing libraries, it’s chasing the gold standard which is R’s ggplot2.
