Yep, you've got it exactly right. The problem for dynamic type systems is how do you enforce 3? Do you care to?

Except the reference can itself be null, which is still problematic.

There are a ton floating around, they just aren't terribly useful because every type is by default nullable. So even standard library functions can return null. You might be able to make your own code a little safer, but you still have to n

But you're quite clearly NOT overloading "=" or ";". Instead of saying do a = getFoo x y z b = getBar p q (which won't compile), you're saying do a <- getFoo x y z b <- getBar p q Which

Off the shelf? Not that I know of. Tracking isn't an easy problem, but it is tractable. It's a complicated problem of mathematics and computer science.

Several of the listed countries aren't democratic in any sense of the word. Even with context the argument is still absurd -- we intend to communicate meaning with the words we use, and the introductory paragraph in the OP and the comment y

You're confusing rigor with mathematical formality. Computing with equations that were taught to you formally, and solving mathematical problems rigorously are two different things. One of the easiest ways to tell the difference between the

The problem has never been Gnome Shell though, and the flak against would never have occurred if a few simple things had been done. A lot of people love Gnome Shell, but many more people simply hate it. But the Gnome developers insisted tha

Woah, you weren't kidding about switching away from XMonad first. That is the most broken focus switching I've ever seen -- and that's after I figured out why I couldn't click anything in the window.

I think the introduction of lambdas will ease the pain with the first two. That is, we can add weak syntactic support for first-class iteration and list comprehensions -- both are monadic features, and though Java can't express a general mo

I think the point is that everyone wants a non-technical co-founder to be more like yourself. But the emails from the "idea" people fail in a more fundamental way -- imagine writing a cover letter to an employer that basically told the empl

That's a great idea. Maybe it needs good auto-categorization to implement well, but another idea is to not bother with the thresholds at all -- every comment can potentially spawn off a new wave of replies, so why not just fork into separat

Move to a simpler distribution that won't bother you. I've been on Arch for the last few years because once I set it up, new updates won't add new "functionality". It isn't perfect, but I can keep the entire system in my head. Nothing opaqu

But you can also embed interesting information into an image without distorting the image itself (much). Similarly, the DNA of most organisms have a ton of garbage space that could be used to encode information without hurting the organism.
