Staff means you work for the company. If you go to a movie theatre and want to find the bathroom, you'd ask the staff (i.e. employees). There's no particular context to staff that doesn't also come with "employees."

I love Signal and use it as my only messenger, but there's no guarantee the server side code is as secure as they say. For a private citizen like myself it certainly looks secure enough (eg in their warrant responses), but I wouldn&#x

The top comment on HN for any given topic is usually contrarian. It's in our cultural DNA. Perhaps the effect is intensified for some topics like tech giants — I haven't noticed — but keep an eye out and you'll see it happe

I'm a bit confused behind the substance of your argument. I use RHEL at work a lot which is admittedly pretty corporately, but use Debian at home just fine. But as for windows-y? How so? And regarding backwards compatibility, isn&#

You're basically correct. RDP can model and transfer data semantically - i.e. it's not just pixels, but higher order objects like toolbars, buttons, and the like. VNC and most others just do raw image/video transfer, with w

It’s not fiction you’re spoiling, but a factual conversation about events that you’re not going into due to spoilers. It is an odd defence that kills the conversation when other people bring up good points. The parallel construction argumen

Appreciation means it would increase (i.e. appreciate). Price appreciation = it will cost more. Essentially saying if you give people a bunch of money for X, the going rate of X will increase as that's how supply and demand work.

What hyperbole! It's entirely possible for some process to be bad, and it still have (some) good consequences. The Black Plague was terrible; but it lead to increased social mobility in the aftermath. Likewise, Apple's "one

Worse, at least in the government circles I work in, people pronounce "SME" as "smee." Almost like you're saying the first syllable of Smeagol. Good luck googling that.

That's a fair question and it depends on what you're trying to get out of the framing. It's similar to the "mean vs median" thing in averages. The absolute average divorce rate is 50%, but the typical marriage su
