I don't understand how this topic comes up so frequently, but HN is configured to allow reposts after a certain amount of time. That isn't really a problem for old posts with excellent information, so I think a repost is warranted for this.

Really? I mean, the new iPhone will probably have a 4" screen. The current iPhone 4S is 0.5" smaller. Consumer shouldn't have a problem distinguishing them.

Awesome--you have two wildly different opinions responding to you. I agree with both: the iPad weighs too much for long-term reading, and it's too clumsy for typing. A 8" iPad would hit the right mix of portability and comfort.

Right. In addition, the '7" iPad' is rumored to actually have a 7.85" screen, so that Apple would now have a 4" phone, an ~8" tablet, and a ~10" tablet. I'd say those devices are easily distinguished from one another.

I don't remember any credible rumors (WSJ, NYT, Bloomberg) in 2009 about an OSX tablet. All the rumors back the centered around a iOS tablet (and they were right). This time there's a lot of smoke from credible sources, as well as some grea

I don't know how GP feels about this, but web development is almost commoditized at this point. The barrier to entry is pretty low, and supply has grown sharply as more people learn how to code. I think GP means something less specific, lik

I think the drama is that, for many people (myself included), WakeMate didn't do that. It would not charge, or sync, or lose connection overnight, or any other number of problems. Granted, their customer service offered to help me out but

I've had laptops that weigh less than 4 pounds for years. It's nice that we can now have one with a bigger screen, but show me the revolutionary new things you can do with it that you couldn't do before? You're doing it again. Do any of t

I studied economics in undergrad, and I'm in computer science now in grad school. If I could choose again, I'd try math in undergrad or, if I was stuck with my econ BA, I'd study applied math in grad school. Math really seems like the way t

Also, it is just a slightly slimmer notebook with a higher resolution. It is not "changing computing as we have known it". Wow. This is like saying "the iPad is just a tablet you can touch." You're completely trivializing the rMBP's benef

Surprisingly compelling. The IAmA's are some of Reddit's best content, and this is so much easier to scan than a real IAmA thread. Thanks!

Yeah, quitting would definitely be an overreaction. How about telecommuting? Let your manager know that noise levels really bug you given where you sit, and ask for a trial run. Then use the trial run as an entry point: code at a coffee sho

Stop fussing around with the concrete definition of "risk." Starting a startup is an extreme financial risk. You can drain your savings and pass up hundreds of thousands in foregone wages. Given that we're not all financially secure for lif
