There are plenty of examples in the literature of using LLMs for translation beating the metrics of non-LLM models, even for languages for which there isn't a lot of data. Transliterating non-Latin characters helps a lot with accuracy

Very interested, will be applying soon! Just under 10 years total experience, 8 of that as some form of data engineer and the latter 5 being heavily focused on ML infrastructure/ops/tooling with one of my favorite roles being in b

Having worked in other sciences (neuroscience for me), I’m not sure what catastrophic obvious errors you’re used to seeing. The vast majority IME are like this, except with even longer feedback loops (on the order of several months).

This is really common in and around Boston too. The architectural style is from the area and we cal them three deckers (in Boston) or triple deckers (everywhere else). Lot size is probably similar, and they’re still highly valued (if kept u

Looping was more natural to me, but learning Elixir (I've been using Learn Functional Programming with Elixir) made it so much easier to grasp and more natural. It's a fun language to use to boot.

I do most of my longer form writing at https://erisianrite.com , usually around Python, ML/data engineering, and amateur radio. More frequently, I update my evergreen and project notes at https://codex.erisianrite

I work in machine learning and also in data engineering, and for most of my career the data engineering title was for people doing everything in the lifecycle outside of R&D workflows (building the models/model architecture itself)

Can you clarify what you mean by "AI engineering?" There are two main paths right now - this is from my experience as a software engineer overall for a decade, a data engineer of some form for all but a year and a half of that, an

This is exactly what I did years ago, and it's much closer to software engineering than building models (which a lot of commenters are conflating with MLE - but tbf the titles aren't delineated well in practice).

I've been an ML/data engineer for the majority of my nearly decade-long career. You don't need hardcore math unless you're building models themselves, and even then it's pretty variable. There's a LOT that happ

Does Python work fine without all that? If it did, validation and type-checking tools like mypy and pydantic (or the recently introduced Typing in the standard library) wouldn't exist. Or having to write lines and lines of checking cod

Having used Python and Perl professionally, I'd have to agree with really all of this. I just want to emphasize Python's niche in ML (since that's what I do with it mostly lately) - it was also helped by a large, early set of

Just go with Perl, IMO. Raku is completely separate, and would be more akin to learning Ruby or Elixir to get the Perl experience IMO.

All this means is that teams have to enforce readability. It's not good or bad, just a different shifting of responsibilities - and this is something that you still need to do for other languages, there's just more tooling (like f

It doesn't even have to be group fitness. I've made great friends at traditional gyms (I train more in a bodybuilding style) just showing up and training.

I'm in Boston, which is very walkable but have lived on major arteries and busy neighborhood roads. We still hang out on our porch with our neighbors all the time, as do lots of people here. It has nothing to do with vehicular traffic.

This isn't really the case outside of far-flung suburbs and rural areas. Where I live, setbacks of more than 6 feet or so are rare, and front porches and stoops right off the heavily used sidewalks are the norm. We do "porch hangs

There are (arguably) better ways to handle this, though. When you get enough cards, you won't conceivably review them all within a reasonable enough timespan to encounter concepts often enough to really remember. The use case you menti

These are two extremes, there's a major gulf in the middle, and this is something that doesn't lend itself to min-maxing. The content creators have convoluted setups that take more time to use than they're useful for because
