There's actually already portal.mozz.us as well as proxy.vulpes.one, both of which are Gemini "portals" ala gopher.floodgap.com. I actually began to try and write an addon to open gemini:// links in Firefox based o

Hey, I just want to jump in here as a counterexample to your argument -- I came into Gemini from "beyond the community." I was a standard web user; I found out about gemini from another discussion on HN or Masto or somewhere and

Honestly, you've just described about 95% of gemini exactly. It's TLS required (even 1.2+), line-based parsing with text/gemini content, it's actually even simpler to parse than XML, since it's line-based (just peek

Actually, gemini://gus.guru is a great search engine in gemini. And there's another one, gemini://houston.coder.town.

And in fact they have (there are two that I know of!): - https://portal.mozz.us/gemini/gemini.circumlunar.space/ - https://proxy.vulpes.one/ (also does gopher)

Thanks for the reply! I've poked around on Facebook and Nextdoor; I'm considering emailing work to see who'd be into it as well. Good point about the ~danger of randoms~.

Love this idea! I'm sending out feelers locally to see if anyone is interested (I'm in Louisiana), and so far I've got a little interest. I was wondering if you'd come into any problems other than the animal thing with y

This is awesome! Do you have the code anywhere? This is the kind of text adventure I want to do but I don't know much js.

This gave me immediate nostalgia for the NES game "Color a Dinosaur" -- thanks for the little trip down memory lane!

Look into the Indieweb[1] and Webmentions[2]. Still really early days, but they're what you're after, I think. Well, if you're talking about commenting on others' posts. I'd think to follow, you'd use RSS or Ac

Don't use TurboTax. I found out about IRS's VITA[1] program a few years ago and it's been a game-changer. The only real limits is that you make less than $55K, and it specifically targets those with disabilities and limited-E

Your argument reads a lot like the "millenials are killing X" meme -- you're blaming people who've stopped engaging with a system for the continuing of that system. Factory farming is not vegans' responsibility, jus

UNK is a minimal static site generator with a built-in markup language (Less Hypertext) and templating engine in POSIX-compatible shell and awk. I was inspired to write it after reading "Write HTML in HTML" and other articles on w

This stylesheet would be a really great one to write an HTML/CSS primer in, since it exposes everything -- like a "You, too, can write HTML!"

Could you share a bit what VPS you'll use to host your ActivityPub? I've been wanting to do this too, but I have no idea at all where to begin.

I actually really love this theme, and have been trying for an acme-ish theme on my laptop for some time. @rmavis, do you think you could share any of the setup with me? Especially your terminal colors.
