My general experience as a PhD student makes me feel that we probably should look at the system as a whole. I get the feeling most universities are abusing publications as a way of assessing their own students. It means people will tend to

I knew this was coming thanks to the nincompoops bankers and IMDA together with horny uncles who fall for love/job scams here in Singapore. The reason I use android over iOS is that I can load apps for personal automation. I think the

How do you plan on competing with existing Chinese manufacturers. Unitree for instance sells there robots at a reasonable price and already has walking working.

As a non-American who's life has been previously saved by knowing that a typhoon would strike my home this has me wondering how we will be affected. A lot of smaller countries don't have the infrastructure/man power to mainta

I feel like we bolt anti-trust after a market has developed. For instance, we go after big tech once it has entrenched itself. Whatabout taking pro-active action. For instance, in the ML market we should be sponsoring a gajillion companies

I wonder what the coding agent story will be for bespoke hardware. For instance I'd like to test somethings out on a specific gpu which isnt available on github. Can I configure my own runners and hope for the beat? What about bespoke

Welcome to academia... you have these "famous" profs who tend to be scumbags. Most of them don't even bother reading papers thoroughly. I'm under one, he forces me to put his name to the paper but hasn't a clue what

Whelps! Ive been building something really similar. Mines nowhere as complete as Buckaroo I really think embedded apps in notebooks can be very useful.

I wish we could time limit notifications, like it'd be nice to allow notifications to an app for a fixed time period (say a barber queueing app) but I dont want to see ads served by them outside of that time period.

While I agree cryptocurrencies don't stand a chance, my experience with qr systems has been a mixed bag. The country I live in has a fairly good qr code payment system. But there was one day when the largest bank went down and that was

His last post was in 2022. Singapore's national service is 2 years, he'd be out by now. Seems like he probably ran into issues. Also he mentions his university: you can't start university till you've finished your milita

As a fellow 90s kid... I feel the same. I remember when Sony Ericson launched their first camera phone and how we used to go through PC upgrades like crazy. My dad would go to the bookstore to buy magazines with new linux distros included f

I love the deck. Its shown us how opensource can be used for a commercial product (and how consumer products dont have to be locked down). I use it in desktop mode every now and then (work in robotics so it makes one hell of an awesome robo

Would it reduce the share of exports that US sells? If they decide to buy directly from China over the US given the higher price of everything in the US (keep in mind the raw components dont all appear out of nowhere).

I think there are ways of wording what you said without hurting front-end devs. LLMs can be excellent tools while coding to deal with the parts you don't want to sink your own time into. For instance, I do research into multi-robot sys

Ah now it makes sense why some of my colleagues were judging hackathons like crazy. TBH the number of O-1s being handed out is a joke. People 2 years out of college are getting O-1s for being able to call chatgpt APIs. I mean given the numb

Nice catch. I remember the days when one could just show up to a hackathon and do cool hacks. Now it feels like they only exist for serious reasons.

I really think a lot of it falls on the funding agencies. While communication is key, there need to be some real questions answered. If a professor has 100 researchers under him and is churning out 2 papers per day how much is he really an

100% I wish more people paid attention to the _methodology_. A lot of people define science as the search for "truth", where it really it is the methodology that makes it the key differentiator from religion. The process of hypoth

IF we can get modern fortran working on top of GPUs via spir-v that would be really awesome. Modern Fortran is so nice for numerics.

That does sound interesting. I might attempt it. Thanks for this benchmark, I totally could use it for my PhD (I started with GOFAI, but have hit a dead end. My advisor is suggesting pivoting into using LLMs to call my GoFAI framework.

Whats very interesting is if we could use LLMs to generate GOFAI methods. Its often not at all obvious how to do so. Than being said its still hard to express goals in terms of natural language and resources to LLMs. I;ve been trying differ

I use a razer blade 14 personally... My mileage varies. I love that I can run a lot of stuff on it, but I hate the fact the ram was soldered and the GPU definitely throttles. I recently ran a benchmark for some GPU code I wrote and found th
