Interesting and very cyperpunk-esque to think about.

Interesting! Yeah, there appears to be a lot of discussion on the topic. My source indicating Einstein was no better. However, happy to attribute it to Ram Dass and/or Einstein, both were brilliant.

This is really cool! I like the attention to detail on the front panel, it's something I'd be proud of showing on a carefully built retro PC. I could see using this over CF to IDE adapters which work well but this is a cleaner sol

Also a vintage PC enthusiast. I have completely stopped buying parts from overseas due to this issue. $60 for an old GPU + $Shipping + $ADMIN_FEE? No thanks.

I think the author could use another TV if they have the space. Solves both the missing HDMI input and the "TV in use" error. :)

Sounds like a reasonable trade off to me. Improves your dev experience and users still get a fast binary. Thanks for this by the way. Carrying the torch of Windows modding in the future!

Me too! The Aero effect still holds up great today IMO. Kind of fun to imagine some hybrid between Aero and Apple's new glass effect. Imagine if Aero could "bend light" instead of just applying a blur effect.

For some it's just fun. Changing things because we can. I was a huge tinkerer in the XP days, I'd test out every tweak and tool I could get my hands on and would reinstall the OS every couple months. I'd use Resource Hacker t

I find myself reaching for the Control Panel all the time in Windows 11. I won't go into the main settings panel unless it's the only way.

I agree, even on fast hardware there is a lot of unnecessary delay trying to take a screenshot. My old workflow from the Win2k/XP days was: Print Screen, Win + R, type mspaint, Enter, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+S, Enter, done. Still feels faster tha

Extending the analogy would be a pretty weird but plausible thing - you show your ID to buy "internet credits" then go home and use them however you want. But those credits probably have an ID or known endpoint that will be tied t

What is "very recently"? Atlanta for example is a central rail hub and was founded 188 years ago as Terminus.

I have heard it framed as a slow drip to keep the pressure on those who signed on from recinding their support. Like a one-way parking ramp - making it more and more painful to reverse course.

I love that GPT-5 is putting the clock hands way outside the frame and just generally is a mess. Maybe we'll look back on these mistakes just like watching kids grow up and fumble basic tasks. Humorous in its own unique way.

I do! I also went from Winamp to Foobar 2000 for a few years. Then I discovered an actively maintained modern patch for the final Winamp called WACUP, and now I'm back to daily driving that instead. :) https://getwacup.com&#

Lenovo also strictly follows this strategy. All new laptops are marked up 200% on release date, but don't worry, code THINK_${CURRENT_MONTH} will reduce it down to market price. I think their goal is to make the user feel scarity/

The one thing I can add is that the VRC players I've played with don't care about it. They just want to be in a world and do things with their friends, even if it's janky or has bugs. It's already persistently novel, and

As someone who had a brief alternate life in VRC and made worlds - just /wow/. I had just enough grasp on Unity to make some basic things, but stuffing Linux into a pixel shader is 1 if not 2 orders of magnitude more impressive. p
