I'm replying to myself in reply to everyone who replied to me. Thanks all for the explanations, much appreciated, I thought I was missing something. I really should have known though, Ive been using portable apps for over 20 years on w

I can't really comment about snap since I don't use Ubuntu but I thought flatpaks would work similar to how portable apps on windows do. Clearly I'm wrong, but how is it that windows can have portable apps of a similar size t

Ever since I 'discovered' Nushell I've noticed a lot of new shells appearing on HN. The thing I like about Nushell is it does away with some of the things that I found hard with bash, and made data formats a first class citiz

I've never heard of your project. I'll have a look, I'm always in awe of people who see a problem and then do something about it, so well done. Nushell can run external programs too, and process their output. Something just c

No contraversial at all. And without sounding like I'm flogging a dead horse, since I've mentioned it elsewhere, but you're after Nushell. Everything is data, structured data. And of interest to a sibling comment it's sy

It's definitely not bash completion. But on the jq note you can read JSON, and various other formats, directly into nushell's data model (a table) and just start querying it.

No need for that even. It's just: open some.json

I learned the basics of jq and quite liked it, but since I discovered Nushell it has replaced nearly all my data processing I do at the cli. It really is good technology.

I would really love a comparison between JJ and fossil. I use fossil for personal projects instead of git. So I'd like to know if I should consider JJ.

Thanks both, the sql-like syntax is definitely something I'm enjoying in Nushell.

I've used pandas before, and recently became aware of polars as it's part on Nushell by way of a plugin. Why would you use polars over pandas?

I have been waiting for this. I currently use profiles, and container tabs, this will further help organising stuff.

Personally I think related monetary wealth is inevitable, it's built into the system. Monetarily I'm at the poor end of wealth, but I am content and want for little. This is also why I probably don't get the house size metric

No. Just a local gym with mats. Started taking my son and thought it looked like fun so started doing the adult class. So far I've learn a lot whilst losing every match I do.

I've been finding nushell's `ls` with a where clause is pretty good for this. There's also the `find` command too.

I don't get how this is useful, just because it might not be inevitable doesn't stop it being a reality now. Also, house size? What a weird metric.

Can I just say well-done to the author of this site. No external JavaScript, it all runs as is, even on mobile. Most modern text based websites can't claim this.

Text is universally accessible and widely supported. Binary has it's benefits, but human facing, it has to be text.

Same hear, in my 40s, except I've recently picked up wrestling (freestyle). On the nights I train my sleep is atrocious. I've been putting it down to being old and out of shape, but it might also be the 1930--2100 timeframe.

Yeah, it's younger than powershell so there's some rough edges in some places. I wouldn't let empty headings in the docs stop you using/experimenting with it though. I use powershell daily but am hopeful that I can repla

I didn't know amp was a thing in email. Glad it died before I knew about it. I've never viewed an amp site either. Actively avoided them, went out my way to view the actual content. Easy to do when you don't have JavaScript e
