Self driving cars are going to upend this industry (eventually). Many mining companies are actively working on getting their mining equipment to be automated to do the riskier jobs without risking drivers. The same ideas apply here. Remove

A diverse system is more robust to threats of all kinds. The more species there are the more likely they are to survive a threat. Biodiversity is not vanity it is a strong defensive position to ensure long term survival.

Reminds me of that Neal Stephenson book, Anathema, that had a space ship that was propelled by setting off nuclear bombs just outside its hull.

Do you (or anybody) have evidence to support this? Genuinely curious since everything I've read shows that surface doesn't matter. I understand this result is counter-intuitive but I was under the impression its a well documented

I suspect we are very sensitive to the introduction of beats which form when incommensurate frequencies are combined. That is to say when you add a frequency of 1KHz to 1.1KHz you get beats at 0.1KHz with an internal frequeqncy of 2.1KHz.

The joke is the current #1 spot is occupied by a broken machine that has never run at full capacity and spends most of its time OFF or hamstrung to save on power. Tianhe2 was a huge mistake, poorly planned out and poorly implemented. The Am

This is the same method we use in studying grain boundary formation in materials science. Atomic lattices align at different angles and are colorized accordingly. It is so cool to see the same idea applied to maps!

Does this mean they won't be releasing a new 5" nexus this year?

That is excellent, should use way less resources then... looking forward to trying this when I get home.

Been doing this for about a year now through pipelight[0] and another more esoteric hack before then. I hope this fix is not so hard on the cpu although I'm guessing it is the same wine hack in a different form. [0] https://

It could be handy if when it runs out of battery it remains as the last selected card. Not sure if the re-programmable strips require a charge to hold their pattern.

Just to clarify, Coin is 100$ not 50$. Not sure where you're getting the 3x factor from.

Yes that is exactly the point I am trying to raise with my previous question. Is this sustainable? Certainly not in the US where a student must take on massive amounts of debt to complete a degree only to make near minimum wage after gradua

I suppose this is the challenge all societies are grappling with; how to compensate fairly so everyone is comfortable while still better compensating jobs that require more skill or 'contribute more' to maintain demand.

I agree with everything said above, but what about the fact that society will always need plumbers, garbage collectors, fast food employees etc.? I'm not even sure that this is a counter point to what is mentioned above, just more thi

That's a pretty sweeping statement. Education impacts all things, voting, social norms, behavior, social sentiment... all of which impact how politicians act. In addition the politicians themselves go through the public education sys

Very cool script! I just tried it out myself and it seems that Google's location history is actually really spotty. It missed several of my trips (during which the phone was active and responsive) and it also included some spots that

I need to comment about going into academia. The end goal being to contribute to math/science in some meaningful way by working on theoretical research full time. I'm in my 6th year of my PhD as a theoretical physicist. I have be

Yes it is very similar, it sets the value at that grid point to its maximum height. This causes the neighboring grid cells to react accordingly (Laplacian in space), giving the rippling effect.

Terrible instructors will be terrible in any medium, so the problem isn't with the medium but the instructors. Great slideshow though, lots of insight for those of us that do actually care about how we teach.
