What reactions? I don't follow. What has the U.S. unilaterally done? The U.S. doesn't run Interpol, nor the companies which have been blacklisted by members of the community. Politicians have opinions, and due to free speech they are able t

Say what you will, but the U.S. puts up with a lot more than most countries. Be thankful for the freedoms you have and celebrate the freedom of others. Edit: Not sure why some went on the defensive. I never said you shouldn't fight to prote

See, this is silly. For me, a candidate who can't ship is not suitable for hiring. All other criteria come second.

Nice catch. This makes more sense, to be honest, than Assange making a mistake as gross as hosting in the US.

Sorry, but all this crap is getting on my nerves. If it were my business I would have done the same thing. I don't care what your views on Wikileaks are, losing money and being shutdown due to violation of the Espionage Act is not something

Heh, some ISOs need to be updated. 1976 initially published and 2004 it was updated. Makes you wonder what other standards are out there, and are ridiculously out of date.

It's about time someone wrote this post. I'm currently working full time, going to school, raising 2 cats, married, and bound to a mortgage as well. Even without the startup it's hard. I couldn't imagine doing all of that while starting a b

Wow, talk about disdain for non-binary genders. It sounds logical, I'm sure, to a majority of people who have never considered the possibility that gender could be n-ary, but this is ludicrous. There are a ton of reasons to drop Diaspora, b

This is pretty cool. For anyone who doesn't know, Voxeo is kind of like the enterprise, super-scale version of something like Twilio but that's just one of their products, VoiceXML. They do a lot more with SIP and IVR. They do some awesome

Yes, a little. I have a day job, and unfortunately am unable to break away from that to join the entrepreneurial pool. Like you, I have a background littered with technical acumen and actually helped with a few start ups. I enjoyed it, bu

I think this all comes down to using the right tool for the right job. I've worked in polyglot environments where the decision to use multiple languages and platforms was a complete disaster. There's just no need to use two tools, which per

I can now confirm that I've met Captain Crunch, or at least seen him in person. We were at DEFCON 17 and a friend of mine was talking to him. Apparently they had lunch together, and he's a really down-to-earth, fun guy.

With a heavy heart, I must say Visual Studio. Despite being a closed source, bloated behemoth it is by far the most easy to use. Intellisense is crazy useful, and the plugins available (FxCop, CAT.NET, IBM AppScan) are extremely well put to

I know Microsoft has a team that does OSS work on .NET MVC and related projects. Not sure if they do that full time, but I'm sure if you ask Scott Hanselman or Phil Haack they can tell you. In a lot of cases companies will buy the talent be

Where I work there is a career path for technical people, but it tops out at the "Senior Staff" level. Now, as far as the role goes, you can be an individual contributor up to a point before becoming a "manager". You can lead a team from a

The answer is yes. The U.S. just isn't as ready as it should be for this sort of thing. On top of that, we're not just talking governments at war anymore. Anyone can start the war, but who will stop it?
