Quora uses your Facebook friends graph to determine who you'll initially follow on Quora. It's been critical to onboarding new users and showing them relevant content immediately.

This is great news. However, it's unclear how the requirement to have users subscribed to Instapaper should be communicated to the users of third-party apps. Is there an easy way to subscribe new users? Does Instapaper provide any library s

This is exactly how Yammer has acquired a large percentage of their customers. It's their competitive advantage, and the reason their sales force doesn't largely subsume the rest of the company. The reason it has worked for them is that the

The ranking has little to do with how effective the school is at producing startups.

I agree. I'm a UTCS grad that was hell-bent on getting involved in startups, but there simply weren't many options at the time ('08). The reasons I witnessed are the following: * Austin is no longer an entrepreneurial town. * The 10% rules

I also enjoyed this one: "The buildings are all more or less the same, their exteriors express very little, and they are arranged in a confusing maze... These buildings are a pretty accurate reflection of the VC business."

Wow, this is the first time I see Startup School being announced for this year. Am I the only one who seems to have missed it? Luckily, I was able to get my application submitted within 3-4 minutes.

Do you have any evidence that investors want short-term returns? This is a common misconception, and I'm not sure where it stems from. Investors would MUCH rather back Facebook than Mint, that is, investment dollars in a long-term success t

Google Instant will most likely never come to GMail search. The speed at which GMail queries are returned simply aren't fast enough for real-time search, and it's unlikely Google has a monetary incentive to improve the speed to this level.

I had not heard of LISP at 15, either. I already knew I loved programming, but what I was doing was rudimentary. I can't imagine how a teenager finds his or her way into such advanced programming. I personally need a formal computer science
