Go to a grad office and talk to PhD students in technical subjects (other than CS). Ask them, what is a certificate, DNS, reverse proxy, SSH public key, docker, TCP/IP, hypervisor, … You would be surprised how many people have no idea!

Basically, the plan was generally 10-15% baseline tariff across the board for all countries, and higher rates for sectors such as steel and aluminum.

How about an all in one box, like phones or synology boxes that come with packages maintained by the manufacturer? If update goes wrong, it will be on support. They require almost no maintenance. You would put two in different locations for

I doubt there is less monitoring at a VPS than CF. Many VPS companies are less known and smaller, and may not have professional audit and access processes in place.

TLS pass through. You simply route encrypted traffic to your home. The keys to the castle are all in home!

If you use this, it makes sense to run it at home. If you run it on a VPS, traffic is decrypted on VPS, the same privacy issue with Cloudflare tunnels. You have to trust the VPS provider.

Part of the reason I let Tailscale up even if I don’t need connectivity is DoH. It can send DNS in all devices encrypted to a public or private DNS server. It can force this by overriding client configuration if desired.

Or install ZFS also on end devices, and do ZFS replication to NAS, which is what I do. I have ZFS on my laptop, snapshot data every 30 minutes, and replicate them. Those snapshots are very useful, as sometimes I accidentally delete data. Wi

Restic is the winner. It talks directly to many backends, is a static binary (so you can drop the executable in operating systems which don’t allow package installation like a NAS OS) and has a clean CLI. Kopia is a bit newer and less teste

Borg2 has been in beta testing for a very long time. Anyone knows when will it come out of beta?

How does this system work? Applicants can provide some but not all of the logins. Also, people will then turn to multiple accounts.

Yeah. Compare A = [1, 2; 3, 4]; x = [5; 6]; y = A * x; with this uglier version: import numpy as np A = np.array([[1, 2], [3, 4]]) x = np.array([[5], [6]]) y = A @ x

My main problem with numpy is that the syntax is verbose. I know from the programming language perspective it may not be considered a drawback (might even be a strength). But in practice, the syntax is a pain compared to matlab or Julia. Th

I’m surprised they can compete even locally in France. They have to deal with a lot of problems that don’t exist in USA. Lack of top talent due to low wages, excessive bureaucracy and regulations imposed by their government, one of the mos

I rely on nextcloud AIO and need to sync my files. Google can prompt the user for permissions; it’s up to the user beyond that.

You can self host the community edition of the overleaf. It provides most features you find in the public offering (auto complete for references and grammar suggestion are missing).

Also, phone calls in Skype are no longer available (unless you subscribe to a business plan and I guess as well a Phone Plan). Contacts became People and it’s not straightforward how to add one in iOS at least.

Isn’t this leetcode system and multiple interviews limited to mostly the US? I don’t see it that much in other parts of the world (many of which with more job security).

Teams doesn’t have Skype calling, except in its expensive business plans and with a Phone Plan add-on. Skype had quality issues, but at least it was easy to charge it and call. It’s got worse now with teams.

The results achieved by the policies of the liberal party of Canada have been disastrous in the past decade. I can’t imagine people voted for them again. It’s counterintuitive. What’s the reason people vote for those outcomes? I know trump

Joplin sync with Joplin server is superb! There is a backup feature exporting all notes to markdown. Is there a way to backup up all notes this way based on a schedule? That would address the issue with dependency on a database.

Can you “btrfs send” snapshots in a raid array in DSM to a Linux server? If it was a ZFS NAS, I could ZFS send to another system. I want to get the historical data out to an open portable system.
