It seems to me that much of the zero trust architecture is relevant to enterprises with a lot of users. For individuals or home users, there might be just one or few users, who need to access it all. There, a simple VPN server might be all

Ok, but what are the new features? It’s Fedora ahead, with immutable system and so on?

Doesn’t Canada have residence for those in such situations, and help to get them back on track? The taxation should cover that in a social system.

The rate of the growth can be reduced. After a generation or two, so does the total size.

The population growth rate needs to be controlled, even reduced, to reduce the pressure on natural resources and slow down the climate change. John Baez, mathematician at UCR, talks about this approach among a number of others, such as, red

I use overleaf extensively. It’s a very good project. What’s the motivation of attackers, bringing down a useful service? It’s probably not a hugely profitable service.

It’s kinda scary. I’m not sure if it will be much better in other countries, given the growing aging population. If one is unlucky and the process isn’t fast, it could be terrible. I can only hope it will end in less than 6 months, from the

I installed 4.2 and was rather happy with the UI. The new GUI is better. The gnome desktop will be important for adoption. XCFE looks ugly in comparison. Equally important is the ease of installation, hardware support, documentation for the

There are also password-authenticated key agreement (PAK) protocols, for obtaining strong security from weak passwords. They are useful in certain use cases. Magic-wormhole uses a version of that. You encrypt files securely with a couple o

The price of a brand new Dell precision PC with a core i9 13900 CPU (24 cores), 64 GB RAM and 2X2TB NVMe is probably around 2.5k$. It costs tens of Euros per month in electricity to run this PC. The hardware is good to go for some 3 years,

Nextcloud snap app is every easy to set up. It auto updates, and the maintenance is near zero. I’m not sure why nextcloud doesn’t make their product as easy as in this snap package. I hear the snap package is missing some customization and

I like peer to peer solutions such as Tailscale. Taildrop suits some cases, but the UI is poor (sudo taildrop get etc), and there are many use cases where taildrop is not useful or impossible. You could have a Tailscale serve where all devi

This seems to be very similar to the Cloudflare tunnels. They are reverse proxies in the cloud, with TLS termination. The traffic is terminated and scanned in the cloud. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/iden

Keybase is a good idea. I used it, and was tracking its development. The development seemed to have been slowed down since it was acquired by zoom. The iOS app has been updated recently, but it felt abandoned earlier.

I back up TBs with restic, never had issues. When I need a file, I mount the remote repository. The mount is fast with S3. The rclone backend means I can backup anywhere.
