No, poor mistranslation there. "We have certainly created man in the best of stature; Then We return him to the lowest of the low, Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds, for they will have a reward uninterrupted." "The Fig" 95

I really like the look of this. I developed http://kayali.sf.net (Maxima/Qt based) and achieving such a clean look is very difficult. Having a web based app makes a lot of sense these days especially for students.

Funnily enough, according to wikipedia, Geronimo was a prominent Native American leader of the Chiricahua Apache who fought against Mexico and the United States for their expansion into Apache tribal lands for several decades. I don't think

A big win for 64bit java over 32bit is that the kernel can provide more memory to the 64 bit process. This is because the java heap has to be 'contiguous' memory, and this is difficult to offer when in 32 bit mode due to memory fragmentatio

Anyone who wants to read a fascinating insight into the early days of personal computer development should read this entire site - it evokes wonderful memories for me of how exciting it all was in those days, and how a few guys can develop

Never remind Americans that they deliberately slaughtered over 100,000 civilians with nuclear weapons - they don't like it.

Ludicrously complicated syntax being required to refer to something simple, like a pointer to a member function. Python: sort(my_list, key=my_instance.sort) C++/Boost: sorry, I had only had 2 hours and couldn't work it out (it's 10 years si

I'm not sure whether to give the quick explanation to that or the proper one - an in-between one is that the income idea won't work because there is no guarantee that e.g. my health will continue OK for twenty years or that my job will rema

You and me both are ignorant about so much of world, but when we see how what we do know about it is so mistakenly represented in the media, it's a big concern. After the world trade center bombings the BBC news on the TV ran a piece in a c

Your mistake here is thinking that if something is not against the shariah then it must be 'promoting' shariah. That's incorrect. In Islam, everything is allowed (halal) unless it is clearly disallowed (haram), so someone administering a sh

This comment is important because it is so offbase and yet is sourced in what a lot of westerners think/know about 'islam'. Frankly, it kind of depresses and scares me a bit how little people understand about the thing that supposedly is ca

If you meditate on the correct things for an hour you might realise that actually it's your 50 hour-a-week job that is wasted time and taking a time-out to contemplate the bigger subjects is a far more useful pursuit.

I find it surprising that javascript gets so much traction as a hidden jewel when really it's a pretty poor language compared to python, for instance. It started off being pooh-poohed (including by myself) by those who thought that it was s

This is a great idea, to have a full powered language running in a VM in the browser. All we need now is to have a more developer-friendly language with a richer VM and framework, like Java. Err....
