Had an app doing fine until about 12 minutes ago, when Heroku tried to move it to a new server. Alas.

Not really looking to press this; it seems like you know more about the economics of energy production than I do. But, some examples of why I wonder if it's this simple: - Part of redistributing less time-sensitive forms of consumption

Not sure the economics here are this simple? It seems like, if this distinction was meaningful, renewable operators would be turning off generation capacity when prices dropped this low. There's some economic, effort, or technologica

I agree that Houston's concrete sprawl isn't endearing and that it's suffering some externalities, but in some respects I also see it as some sort of harbinger for Austin. I like Austin, and would love to live there, but I&#x

Well-designed landfills are probably better than loading plastic into confetti cannons, but calling anything in a man-engineered landfill "undisturbed in the earth" is a stretch. Plastics sitting in our landfills are, at human tim

I don't think it's a lost art, but it might be a lost profession. I can't imagine the sequence of events between my current life, and a life as even a part-time line editor.

When reading comments or articles that acknowledge the problem, but have a rosy outlook on technical or market solutions to the problem, I rarely get the impression that they've spent time grappling with how many deliberative entities

Late to the thread, but I'm also a Griddy customer in Houston and wanted to put an asterisk on this. I'm not sure how your friend knows his rate yet. The Griddy interface takes 24-48 hours to update/integrate the smart meter

I more generally think limiting your identity-surface is a good idea, because I suspect strongly-held identities do subtly hem you in and shape your choices (which can be exacerbated if your identification was mistaken.) That said, I narrow

To unpack a smidge, I think the first N steps all involve developing the perception and language to spot, tag, and catalog instances of this problem. There's a fundamental shortfall in the quality of our thinking relative to the task (

I think this is exacerbated by a dual blind-spot in both our thinking and languages regarding the difference between "how something was the last time we checked" and "how something intrinsically/durably/permanently

Churn can be all of the things the post describes, and I think it's good to be skeptical of churn--always looking for ways to avoid it. But it's also hard to tell the difference between churn and maintenance , and I think one of

Not sure that's a bad thing. It probably hinges on the unit economics of their ticket obligation to the studios. For example, if subscribing induces people who like going to the movies enough to do it at least monthly to go more often-

It's not clear how requiring an ID would intrinsically stop duplicate votes? IIRC a number of countries use an indelible ink pad that voters have to place a finger on.
