This blows, not so much because Stripe is leaving SF, but because it's going just over the border for tax purposes so 100% of employees who live in SF will stay in SF. The company just won't pay their fair share to the city to off

The gross receipts tax was Jack Dorsey's idea . As CEO of Square he lobbied for and received a switch to the gross receipts tax in 2012.[1] He only started complaining about "fairness" when it became about helping the homele

Event sourcing may be many things but I don't think "quick and cheap" is one of them. If you want quick and cheap do a (distributed) monolith.

How did they crack it in 4 days if ”a 7-bit exhaustive search would still take over 2 years on a modern GPU”? Is that overstating it?

Did anyone ever figure out what Amazon Glacier uses? They only publicly talk about using custom software to "optimize the sequence of inputs and outputs"...[1] [1] https://aws.amazon.com/glacier/faqs/

Any idea roughly how many SF engineers just got laid off? Trying to get a sense of how this will hit the local labor market in the next few weeks. Articles says 265 engineers.. 85% in the U.S. So up to ~200 will be looking for SF jobs? How

No, you can't run elasticsearch offline on a web client. Look, we can keep going back and forth and maybe you'll dig up some javascript library that implements a search. And that's fine, I believe there are "maker"

Network latency is an issue then. The word list is going to lag behind keystrokes. Also, doesn't work offline.

I'm not sure what you mean by standardization. You're totally at the whim of the exam-maker either way. If anything I find algorithm screens tend to draw from a semi-standard set of fundamentals as outlined in books like Cracking

I wouldn't say coding algorithms is "irrelevant". It's sort of like saying the SAT is irrelevant. It's a general aptitude test. It's not about the "relevancy" of trigonometry to your day to day work.

Ok.. Find all the words that match a search string prefix. I.e. you have a search field and want to show the possible matches as you type. With each new char you’re calling this search and getting back a list of words. The dictionary is in
