Where can I read this certainty of destroyed biodiversity? That sounds like an extremely unsupported position, considering that the Amazon has the highest rates of biodiversity today. The continued belittling of indigenous forestry practice

If you aren’t reaping of sowing, your labor isn’t in the fields anyway. People don’t understand that there are ebbs and flows to a farming life. There is always work to do but no one is out in the fields much unless it’s harvest or seeding

Sniping means that bidders may have decided to put in a higher ceiling in order to avoid losing at the last second. If there was never a worry about this, they could bring out (and decide) that ceiling only after being outbid.

The postmark must be on or before voting day. I cannot fathom how people have bought into this idea that they can be sent after the preliminary voting has happened.

A bedroom produced song versus a major-label, famous-studio song can have insane differences in price. It’s always been a requirement to make it up in volume of spins. I don’t see how this is any different.

Right, but a counter point is the etherium fork. Only a handful of people stayed on the “classic” chain after that first DAO turned out to have a massive extraction bug in it.

It’s a privately owned company. This leads to an entirely different relationship between employees and the top layer of management. You have to be very misguided to believe that the c suite in most companies is not engaged in n adversarial

I’m sorry but there is no way you can demonstrate a universal aesthetic. Your opinion of other people’s tastes does not reflect on their taste — it reflects on yours.

Definitely there has been a shift towards video content. But I think there is a discoverability dynamic at play as well. Finding a blog post that isn’t garbage can be harder than finding a decent video on any given topic. This is clearly a

My intuition is that if there’s no 2 dollar coin to go with it, there’s no way for it to gain practical traction. In the US, change is already an annoying factor because sales tax is rarely included in eg, 4.99. So no one is jumping up and

I don’t personally find “why didn’t you do it in X like everyone else?” to be very motivational for explaining my coding choices. But antononcube has thicker skin than me so..

In that case, when would Raku ever be a better choice than something else? I personally don’t see what advantages Python as a language (not an ecosystem) would have here.

Again, all of this comes from Ted Nelson. He also had philosophical antecedents, but in terms of software it was his dream of Xanadu that was the first hypertext system. However, it’s worth pointing out that every attempt at Xanadu (under t

All of which were similarly fractional implementations of Xanadu. Ted Nelson coined the term hypertext in the 60s.

Hypertext existed. Plan files existed. FTP already existed. In fact, the only surprising feature of www is that no one bothered to include bidirectional linking, to disastrous consequence.

He didn’t invent anything either, though. www is just a less-than-half implementation of Xanadu. EDIT: To be clear, I don’t intend that as a knock against Sir Berners-Lee. But the post I’m responding to invokes a false dichotomy.
