These days Javascript is plenty fast enough to achieve this goal by simply writing other languages over the top of it... There are some examples of this happening already, HotRuby for instance.

Ah so you did Kevin! Sorry, I didn't tweak to the connection immediately as the original poster had a different name... I'm really glad to hear the Gem is working well for you! Please let me know if you guys have any further feedback now th

I would be curious to find out which library (if any) they're using to interact with the TMDB API... I wrote one of the two Ruby libraries available (ruby-tmdb) so I would love to get some feedback from them if they are using it!

Looks great Atestu! I'm curious as to where you're getting your data! I'm building out something similar at the moment and I'm using TheMovieDb.org I noticed you're using Rails as well so I'm just curious which solution you chose!

I'm actually in the middle of implementing a Scheme variant at the moment, so it's interesting to read about the features/decisions involved in another implementation. Scheme really is a beautiful language! I just ordered copies of SICP and

Hey Marc! I'd have to look over the book again to give you valid feedback, it's been a while since I looked at it. It definitely pointed me in the right direction though so I appreciate that!

It was actually a mixture of both. The first 'book' I read was http://createyourproglang.com/ , which pointed me in the right direction as far as next steps. Personally I think the book is a little light on details, but it's much more ap

Thanks Mahmud! It's definitely nothing advanced, and it's a bit of a dead end as far as languages go, but I think it gets the point across!

Thanks Marc! Yeah, this has been a while coming now! I've just started writing a book that goes into greater (and more fundamental) detail on the process of simple language design. Great fun!

Shouldn't the first rule of writing good software be "nothing is a black box"? At some point something in that box is not going to work how you expect it to, regardless of who makes it.

So I'm paying to fix a bug in their software that I've already paid for? Call me crazy, but if I have the option of cracking open the stack and having a go at fixing the bug myself I'll do it. At least that way I'm not dependent on anyo

Just signed up, looks pretty good. 2 suggestions: 1) Having a linkedIn profile shouldn't be required to sign up. 2) The 'pages' associated with an account don't seem super useful to me right now. A lot of my most interesting work is not gra

The threading on the container and it's lid is not something that would be easy to do on a 3 axis mill. I think it does show off the advantages to an extent, but something else (like their ball-bearing example) may be a better front-page ex

Time consuming from a development stand-point, or billable-time standpoint? Switching to the auto-scaling version of delayed_job on heroku took me about 20 minutes and it has worked flawlessly ever since. The repo is here: http://github.co

Lua is a great little language... I only really 'discovered' it a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed what I've seen so far. I don't think it will replace Ruby for me, but I like it's minimal feel for comparison...
