I feel you. Disconnect for a while, touch grass, be the change you want to see, maybe explore parts of the internet that are less “startup” focused and more hacker focused?

ah, excellent point. thanks. this works if they are transforming the triangle to be a right triangle to make a rectangle but if they are making it half a square, that could not be accomplished solely with affine transformations (if I figure

oh just close your eyes and imagine an apple for a few moments, then open your eyes, look at the wikipedia article about aphantasia and pick the one that best fits the level of detail you imagined.

no, this person is not suggesting a parallelogram but rather performing an affine transformation on the triangle to make it a right triangle so they can pick a random point in a square instead. as another commenter mentioned, I believe this

alphabet is "worth" 2.45 trillion on the public market, is anthropic worth a bit less than 10% of google going forward? I don't think that's entirely unreasonable...

There are a few "hints" that suggest to me algorithms will bear a lot more fruit than compute (in terms of flops): 1) there already exist very efficient algorithms for rigorous problems that LLMs perform terribly at! 2) learning i

We are either limited by compute, available training data, or algorithms. You seem to believe we are limited by compute. I've seen other people argue that we are limited by training data. It is my totally inexpert belief that we are su

The claim that "any amount may have negative effects" (in the article) is NOT the same as the claim that "you can detect if I had a single drop 20 years ago" (the claim you were arguing against.)

It’s time to update your self concept. The Wikipedia article is pretty good on it and the apple scale is illustrative of the spectrum.
