Hmm, I at least received a refund on the tablet; I think half of it was paid out and half of it I opted to use as payment for Sailfish X. An email I have stored from July 4th 2017 mentions "the tablet refund tool", so there seems

I low-key hate myself for this, but I went and preorder. I've been waiting for SFOS to come to my Xperia 10 IV but that seems to still be in beta, and after quite a few years it'd be hard to switch over ask well... But I have to t

Are you asserting that the report is lying, and that a majority of the flight hours aren't actually being used for all those mentioned low priority purposes? If so, is your assertion based on the helicopters being used a few times a ni

Absolutely not trying to minimise your experience, but I found it really funny somehow how different (and still same) human life truly is depending on where you were born and how you have lived. I've never had a 160 kg Bavarian nutsack

I think you can install it on Xperia X 10 III, and IV (which I have) is in a long-toothed beta.

Finnish sauna enthusiast here: going to same sex sauna naked is absolutely common (although you'll also find people who avoid it), but mixed sauna is less commonly done. Amongst technical university students it used to be effectively u

I guess one possible avenue of thought is that when I opened the linked article, I had a few seconds to start reading before I got one full screen modal dialog, followed by another 1/5th height popup dialog on top of that to click away

I do like the idea of this, but after writing a longer response explaining my positive view on this I came to a different conclusion: I was thinking this'd be a possibly useful measure for programs running on CPUs with contention, wher

Researchers at IBM analysed the path that a single data field in an XML document takes in an application, entering as a byte buffer from a database query result and getting converted multiple times to eventually exit as part of the generate

One famous example is Igalia, doing Open Source consulting for various companies, including Google, Apple, and others. They're a worker owned co-op and have grown very nicely over the years.

I merged support for JavaScript object "shapes" in my Nova JavaScript engine last week; now I just have to clean up some of the ugly parts of the API (and maybe do some performance adjacent changes), and then it's time to use

oxc_parser uses bumpalo (IIRC) to compile an AST into arena from a string. I think the String is outside the arena though, but their lifetimes are "mixed together" into a single 'a, so lifetime-wise it's the same horror

To the author, I would be a borrow checker apologist or perhaps extremist. I will take that mantle gladly: I am very much of the opinion that a systems programming language without a borrow checker[^1] will not find itself holding C++-like

If you start making assumptions based on indices, you can turn logical errors into memory safety errors. ie. whenever you use unsafe with the SAFETY comment above it mentioning an index, you'd better be damn sure that index is valid. T

Actually; I'm not sure I'm wrong. If Copy was automatically derived based on fields of a struct (without the user explicitly asking for it with `#[derive(Copy)]` that is, as the parent comment suggested the OP is asking for), then

Oh, good point yeah; I wasn't thinking of Drop clashing with Copy, but just about the fields that make up a `Vec`.

Auto-deriving Copy would also mean that there needs to be an escape-hatch: eg. Vec would auto-derive Copy.

I honestly think it'll rather be memory usage, rather than performance. Building an engine that benchmarks better than V8, SpiderMonkey, or JSC is a multi-year effort with a very high chance of failure. Maybe Nova's data-oriented

Embedding isn't a foremost concern currently, but it _is_ a concern. It is fairly likely that I might attempt embedding Nova (with minimal JS features) into a C++ application later this year; this work would probably result in the kind

Yeah, only place for ECS-style layout would probably be in the interpreter, but a Wasm interpreter might not be the thing one wants to do.

Hi, thanks for the question. No particular reason: it might be the one we settle on eventually. For now, Wasm hasn't been in my focus and thus hasn't received any work. When it does become a focus, it might rather be brought in as
