Yet you are only hypothesizing. MS-IE broke standards and stagnate deliberately, I have yet to see such a deliberate behavior from Google. There are hiccups and f*-ups but it is nothing compares to MS.

Comparing it with MS-IE is unfair. It was not Mozilla or Firefox, but Chrome and Android broke the hegemony of IE in many countries. Where I lived, bank or government sites were IE-Windows only until Chrome appeared. In countries like Korea

Previous and the current presidents are far worse evil people. They first destroyed lives with meaningless lockdowns then pumped trillions of dollars which destroyed economy and impoverished people. Musk cannot even come close to these.

I am not the OP, but here is my take. In practical sense, because they do more harm than good. In logical sense, IMO, IP (patents, copy rights etc.) is not `property`, so it cannot be owned. Thus it can be copied indefinitely and used once

Software is hard. Deal with it. Technical regulations, if you mean government regulations on all facets of the software industry, will bring much more problems than it is supposed to fix.
