I'm building a product that helps out Docker usage in poorly networked environments (ie, robotics deployments). I've just been moving the Jetson around the house.

Does it support running Docker images inside the sandbox?

I'm in the process of standing up a new container registry, going to be studying this closely.

There's various ways around this (like capping amount of experience per level by source), but ain't game design fun?

What difference would a house make here? A yard?

Feels a little gameable. I’d sell solar rights to some bit of land that I was already going to profitably adding solar to. It might still result in good incentives though.

I wonder if there’s any situation where running heaters to keep the panels clear ends up with positive electricity generation. If nothing else it would help after the fact.

For some (like one of my family members), circumstances are such that they need more social attention than the family/medical system can provide. That's one of the reasons we are considering.

There's probably a really good answer using statistics, but it's beyond me.

I was sad, too. If there was a way I thought to continue doing it, I would. But as it is I'm actually considering getting out of robotics at this point, I've had enough of everyone "Living That Way".

Hey uh - good luck. I spent a while smashing my head against this. You should read https://basisrobotics.tech/2025/01/08/postmortem/ and consider: - How you will get users - How you will fund developme

A docker/container registry that deduplicates at the file level instead of the layer level. Faster pushes, cheaper storage costs.

uv is one of my inspirations. Take a familiar interface, do the same thing but better/faster.

This is neat. I’m about to dive into snapshooters myself, any pitfalls to watch out for?

I’ve seen images that accidentally install tensorflow twice, too. It wouldn’t be so bad if large files were shared between layers but they aren’t. It’s bad enough that I’m building an alternative registry and snapshotter with file level ded

The other issue is that it's not like they can go back and run this deduplication after the fact. Image layers are stored as a single gzipped tar of the contents on the layer. You can't just pull a single file out of that. If you

I'm well aware of `COPY --link`, it doesn't solve the problem. I'm a heavy heavy user of it, combined with throwaway build stages. `COPY --link` won't help my `apt install` commands. The use case here isn't `FROM py

What? It’s much much better now, you can just use uv. Yeah, it’s yet another package manager, but it does it well.

Squashing the image means you end up duplicating all those files across images though, unless I'm misunderstanding.

I built a little site to visualize a problem I keep running into using Docker at customer sites with bad internet. It's solvable without moving completely off Docker. Would love to chat if anyone else runs into this and wants a drop-in

Even 4 cylinders and a turbo (like my GLI) are plenty fun. I’m tire grip limited as it is, but it probably keeps me out of trouble, as tempting as something with more pep is.
