Good on you! I took six months off after my last job - might have taken more, but living is expensive and I felt like if I had declined the offer I got as COVID started I might not have other chances soon after.

This is really neat. I've done similar things with jinja templates plus heavy use of c++ template magic - with the downside that there's a bit of disconnect between the two syntaxes. I'll have to keep an eye on this for the f

Are you sure you don't have the causation backwards? "X is bad because the govt stepped in" vs "the govt stepped in because X is bad/hard"

I'll take second worst over worst. The current system has been in place for hundreds of years, I'm not going to hold my breath for the "perfect" voting system.

Can you explain to me why it was bad? I've not used Java (professionally at least) - from what I can tell, the main issue is that it's just much more verbose than returning something like Result<T>.

That ship has long passed. Edit: shouldn't it matter to the user anyhow, that they need rust? There's no world in which the user can just ./make given the existence of dependencies - the user needs to read the README.

A few jobs ago I added save-to-reload to our lua integration. You had to structure your data in a certain way for it to really work, but as long as you followed the rules it was an amazing productivity boost.

Putting aside “good” vs “popular”, static typing doesn’t save you from accidentally tagging the wrong endianness for your external data sources. And it matters if you’re doing math with your CPUs native type.
