The thing you're talking about is actually done already by embedding non-lawyers in legal groups or having non-lawyers on payroll at law firms.

Head to Georgetown. I lived there for a bit. It's a spectacular area. There's a canal just south of M St. (the main street in Georgetown). Walk down to it. Specifically, walk down to it right by the Barnes and Noble store. You'll see a coff

Or it's the type of job where one candidate looks like another. My guess would be some sort of business position?

Ha! Nah, I need the business instead :). It's hard to find paying clients, especially when you're just starting out but it can't hurt to attend a conference or two. Follow up with some of those people and start meeting people who need websi

They will. Prototypes of web sites with rudimentary systems for logging in and changing things can be sold. You can also sell for considerably more than $500. Aim for $3k or more. Many people would love to get a working but not very good ve

Want to get started? I did some work for a US client that wanted to develop a political tool for people to organize themselves. It was released under BSD. I can dig up the code and repost it if you'd like (original site expired). It was dev

That is a surprising aspect of San Francisco. Went there for the first time in October and wandered into basically a ghetto downtown. I'm not sure if US cities are the best comparison. That said, there are a lot of other good cities with st

You might want to be more specific about what you mean by "most free" because Singapore isn't very free as in freedom: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_Singapore

You don't get better unless you attend these events! I found it really useful when I was a student (and still do) at UW. You get to meet a lot of interesting people and see how people make things.

How large is the gig? Is it really worth your time to put together these agreements? Is the client demanding it? If you're doing it as a side project, I wouldn't put in any more effort on overhead than you are being asked for. I recommend a

I agree. Canada uses a concept of FSAs (forward sortation areas) that correspond to regions. I don't think it's safe to rely on truncation under the Canadian postal system. I believe only the first three letters/numbers identify a geographi

You can't go wrong doing what's interesting. I did a degree in biomedical sciences at Waterloo, a school in Ontario with a big focus on tech. I went to events, met people. Earned a degree in something almost entirely unrelated. I worked in
