They also thought, at the time, that they would "make money on the flow of money", without charging any fees (presumably by investing it and having some sort of fractional reserve scheme going on). That didn't pan out either and they found

Fun fact: Russ was the coder for a Chicago 'burbs-based demo group when he was about 17 (I met him at NAID 1996, when I was also 17. He later described PayPal to me as a method for transferring money with your Palm Pilot, like at a restaur

As an aside, there are currently 6221100 bitcoins in circulation (not counting ones that were lost, I suppose) and they are currently trading at around $7.50, which means Bitcoin has an implied market capitalization of around $46 million. N

AFAIK 433MHz can be used for any short-range application, similar to 27/49MHz for R/C cars. There are plenty off-the-shelf 433MHz transceivers for hobbyists, and I think car remote-unlockers use that band as well. And this doesn't appear

That sounds sorta like the neocortex algorithm stuff Numenta is working on, and has been working on for several years. I don't think they've achieved anything beyond what's possible with more conventional approaches yet.

I just found out about bitcoins last weekend, and ran the bitcoin miner, and then found out that it will take my 2.4GHz dual-core laptop 10 years to generate a bitcoin at the currently-established difficulty (without using my GPU, presumabl

I wish I could just buy blocks like these for my son. Bandai Spacewarp-type-things are a little too much yet, and the marble toys we have are pretty lame in comparison to this.

That's strange. In the latest Chrome, some of those soft hyphens fail to show up but it still splits the word, e.g. "abomina<br>tion". Other hyphenations appear just fine. Works fine in Safari.

I dunno, if you ever played a brass instrument, then you're playing on an (approximately?) just-tempered scale -- each valve combination is a harmonic series starting from the 2nd harmonic. Whether it's just-tempered over the entire scale
