From certain point of view, it has. When I started learning programming in mid 2000, closest thing I would use is anonymous implementations of runable in Java? These days, I don't think there is a main-stream language in use, that woul

I would say there are several languages that straddle the line. AFAIK there exist 50+ people teams that use i.e. ocaml (Jane street, Facebook), haskell (gallois, Facebook, Google), erlang (whatsapp, pivotal) I would say that beyond i.e. 10

There are languages that have stronger type systems. I.e. idris, agda. There is paralel lineage of ml-style languages (ocaml, F#) that deal with abstraction in different way (I find ocaml module system fascinating and yet have to fully comp

For me it is the money. I think I would enjoy it, doing the research, even the grant/publication game. But where I live, I probably wouldn't have money for feeding my family. The money you get kinda assumes you are still a student

Looking at the situation in Venezuela, I do often think about Iran. Like, on the surface, they seem to be in a similar situation geopolitically. I would think, that if Venezuelan regime displayed at least the same level of competency as Ira

I am using a 5$/month linode server. 1 vcpu, half a gig of ram, 20 gig space. Good enough for some node-js dev. Not enough for haskell unfortunately.

Still, for me it is quite hard to imagine what would I create with APL. Usually, when trying a language, my instinct is to implement a web-service. Or a simple gui-app, with some library. With APL, I am looking at it and wonder. I looks pow

T.b.h. these two were often dis-joint. Applicable skills learned in the wild and the ones learned in CS classes can have little in common. I would say they are almost orthogonal. But for the most white-board style algorithm questions I have

Actually using go-lang for a project. I really don't like the language. It is verbose, with really simplistic error-handling, over-reliance on accepting interface{} in methods (meaning arbitrary object). More-over, I really like the ba
