I'm not really talking about multiple dispatch, but more like a module that store two or more types, like: module Data = struct type pair = int * float type numbers = int list let make_pair () = (0, 0.0)

As another answer pointed out, a class in OOP is supposed to implement only one type and operations on it. It works in many cases, but sometimes it does not fit naturally the problem at hand. Modules relax this single-type requirement, and

One thing is that OCaml modules are first class objects, so can be constructed at runtime and passed around as variables. But this Zig example, I think, will cover the most common case of functors for creating generics. (I'm also not s

Guido is not a Physics Nobel Laureate. Going with the Physics analogy, Python is more like an overgrown masters level project, not a Nobel prize level by far. He did a good job at growing the Python community, and this is a great achievemen

The hard part is giving the student meaningful feedback. Especially to those who don't understand something important. It takes time to understand what they do and don't understand, and explain it at their level.

Nice story. It can go either way, I think, depending on the courses you teach, how you re-structure them for teaching remotely, and how the college helps you with it. This is a good example of changing things for the better! On the other ha

To put it in the context, it's not actually a "strong type system" that allows you to model data precisely, but algebraic data types. (And type constraints, such as non-empty collections, can be created using generalized alge

This is great, but I think, learning Vulkan and writing a video game can be hard within the same project. Don't burn out. If you want a suggestion, I'd keep learning Vulkan on a side, but chose a higher-level graphics library for

What about safety if your hand or hair gets in between the moving parts? Also cleaning those separate moving parts could be difficult. It will either get all dusty and dirty, or you will have to put ugly covers on top of it, I guess..

Not at all, I think, these two traits are orthogonal. I share this mindset without making much money at all (I'm a graduate student and an adjunct lecturer at a college). If you don't focus on your personal gain, but instead do so

If I'm not mistaken, if all code authors agree on the license change, then, the new release can be made fully GPL. While the old copy will be still available as MIT. A malicious actor can pretend that they merged MIT parts with new GPL

If you tried to take care of a baby or a toddler, you would see that it's like a second job in terms of how much time and effort it requires from you every day. Now imagine yourself doing all that x2 amount of work, would you ask for h

I think, this is why you need explicitly ASCII and explicitly Unicode lower-/upper-/capitalized-transformations. So you don't assume these things to work automagically. Some times you need one type, the other times you need t

Any proper form of crowd funding Mozilla would be a nice thing to do, since they are doing a lot of work for our common good.
