Yeah, I see. I'm not a web developer, so maybe this is why I did not think about this way to break the data. Well, I still think that it is better to have two (hopefully) correct fields in the database, rather than only one. (Consisten

Oh, my point was that two kinds of names should not be used interchangeably. To store or not the .lower() is a matter of taste.. (Personally, I would store both names, just to avoid wasting computing time)

I don't see any real reason to rely on idempotence. They could simply store two names: One is provided by the user (verbatim), and the second is its reduction to lowercase letters and digits (canonical). For all internal logic, they co

Documentation for the Jane Street's Core Library looks incomplete or damaged (E.g. Core.Core_list module https://ocaml.janestreet.com/ocaml-core/latest/doc/core/Core... ). I think, this is very unfor

Yeah, it was quite common: http://bit.ly/14HIT5f I think, it was really fun. Sadly, it seems that nowdays, our (Russian) government favors religiouis symols over indistrial/sientific ones..

Yeah, I have never heard the Atomgrad word, though some people can probably use it. Btw, cities like that are also commonly called "scinetific cities" ("naukograds"), though "naukograds" are not necessarily clo

This feature looks a lot like DuckDuckGo Instant Answer. I think, there is no reason to be very paranoid about it. Googly sandbox is a completely different thing. Yandex does not really lock you to their apps and services, and (hopefully) d

My favorite: 1) Using Taylor Series, show that exp(ix)=cos(x)+i*sin(x). 2) Then the result is trivial for x=pi This image helps: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Euler%27s_formula.svg

I agree that a compaign to advertise to Americans (or any international public) is suspicious. They must reach for their own people, and this is the only right long term strategy. However, I'm afraid that most of Turks can be just too apath

I agree with this. I don't know about the situation in Turkey, but definitely, average salary is not the measure of people's well-being at all. If peaceful citizens go to the streets to protest, they really feel that something is going wron

If you add up the total time the telescope will be available to the public in minutes (please, correct me if I'm wrong) you get: 30 * 1000 + 3 * 30 * 500 + 3 * 30 * 500 + 10 * 30 * 100 + 25 * 30 * 50 + 25 * 30 * 50 = 225000 minutes = 156.25

The avalanche explanation does not seem to be very viable for modern investigators of this mystery. The information sources in English are scarce, unfortunately, you have to read Russian discussions of the incident. A few decades ago, there

Not really a bad idea, imo. The upside is that you cannot make a stupid typo in these nested loops, which is really easy to do, when you have to write the same thing several times in several places of your program. Also, it is easier to ref

Thanks for the idea of "denotative programming". I think, it can be a really nice paradigm for teaching programming and math together.

I would like to add that recursive calls can be nicer than loops, when multiple conditions or branching are possible in the loop body. An equivalent implementation with while loops, if conditions, continues, and breaks are usually harder to

Thanks, finally I see the reason behind the teacher's solution... I think, this is a good example why you should not divide math problems in rigid cetegories. Things become worse when badly taught high school students go to college, and fai

This is just a toy language, an excercise, not a real language. And it's easy to implement a simple purely functional language in another functional language.

Some people don't use menus often. From my experience, I use menus 2-5 times a day at most. However, if you rely heavily on clicking menus, learning keyboard shortcuts can be a really good time-saver. And the second argument against this "s
