I don't believe the Go team deciding not to break GDPR law after massive backlash is anything that should be applauded.

Exactly. There usually is some stuff about the deeper, darker corners of a language in the type of book I pick. I usually pick the authoritative book / advanced book. Think "Programming PHP", "The joy of clojure", &

We may concede that it could be difficult from an engineering/sensors perspective, but the software side should be about as easy as a traffic light

Of course. My methodology is usually this: Day 1: read the introduction of a book, set up editor and environment Day 2: (superficially) learn flow control and type system Day 3: practice with coding problems on codewars Day 4-7: reimplement

This one is the straw that broke the camels back for me: https://github.com/kovidgoyal/kitty/issues/4965 "Are you sure you want to close this window", meant to only trigger in interactive scenarios

At the same time using purely php is about as convenient as it gets. Just rsync, ftp or scp your index.php to the server and deployment is done. PHP+Laravel is more akin to ruby on rails or python django. Pure PHP is similar to Go in terms

The whole issue of readability is overstated and can be reduced to familiarity with syntax and idioms

I'm in the same boat. I believe it's a matter of taste mostly. We prefer expressiveness and power, other prefer simplicity of semantics and verbose code

I believe people over-estimate the benefit of properly learning a language. 3-12 months seems to be sufficient for the specialisation benefits to outweigh the small hit to language competency. My strategy is to be a generalist superficially

I maintain at least one reasonably large open source project myself and pride myself on our turnaround time. Our users/contributors don't need to wait weeks, months or even years until their issue is categorized, addressed and res

In our little IT bubble where 3+ interviews are the norm, it's fine to envy the straightforward hiring in food-service. Ofc we still got the better deal overall and should only complain in hush tones

In the alpha stage Also, how hard can it be to touch up on docs or some other small parts at least once a week? If you don't have the time for that maybe don't start a new project?

At the risk of being ignorant/heretical: Why use this over "raw" templating (e.g. jinja2) at this point?

With Lisp the paradox of choice is especially unwarranted since moving between lisps is even easier than say moving between dynamically typed scripting langauges. Learning Guile for 4 weeks and then do CL for 2 leaves you no worse than doin

Given CL and Guile (never heard of Janet), with a focus on practicality, I suggest CL. I go into more detail in the posts I linked. While a few months old they still hold up. https://port19.xyz/tech/other-lisps/

Noise is a real concern that is largely unaccounted for in those CAD renderings sold to management. I'm sure that office done well can beat out remote jobs, but so many fail short
