Nice to see that he linked to rust as a safe alternative to the C's (C, C++, Objective-C). There is a place for Go and Java as well above the system level. Both perform well and are safe.

I believe the author meant "logic mistakes". I agree the current wording is confusing.

It's my understanding that the Starlink signal is almost straight up, so if that is true, the trees would have to be rather close to the house. Does anyone know if this is true?

They also threaten to leak your data if you don't pay. They know a lot of orgs can restore the data and won't need it decrypted. There's no real defense against this (other than good security practices).

It's not possible to find all the bugs and they only get noticed when they fail to find one. No one recognizes all the bugs that they continually find and fix.

The problem is the entire thing will be compromised. Exchange, SharePoint, clients, servers, domain controllers, etc. That's what happens to monocultures. You must have diversity at every level (OS, DB, network, apps, etc.) Yes, it is

Companies could also stop creating monoculture networks that are easy to manage and also easy to compromise. When every device is a domain joined Windows 10 machine running some low level, 3rd-party centralized remote management system, it&

I find writing to be like this. Write something, go away for awhile and do other things. Come back and refine what you wrote. Once you do that several times, you'll have something worth reading. But it takes time.

In general, when we use someone's platform to publish, we give up control. People continually rediscover this fact. If you want more control, publish on a standard website on a standard Linux machine.

This really gets at the issue. These are compliance tools mandated by auditors and accountants that are intended to provide centralized config/control of everything. Ultimately, they make companies insecure as they have tentacles into

This impacts ssh sessions too, you can set ServerAliveInterval N (/home/user/.ssh/config on the ssh client machine) to some reasonable number to keep it alive.

Great advice. Anytime you do things quickly, it's best to carefully understand the details of what you are doing, otherwise mistakes are made and/or accidents occur.

I live in a rural college town on the East Coast USA. I paid Verizon 90 USD per month for 1.5Mbit DSL and a home phone number. I had this phone service for about 12 years. It was horrible. When the phone rang, the DSL would stop working. Wh

This is my experience too. The best EE I know dropped out of university but knows more about it than anyone I have met. He builds radios, phones and antennas from parts as has since he was a kid in the 1950s. I think the same applies to CS.

I don't think what you call "slacking around" is actually bad. You are keeping abreast and learning new things from relevant sites. That's a big part of your job and a tremendous value to you and your employer.
