I haven’t lived in Brazil for 10 years, so maybe it’s different from what I remember. You might get the difference back when you filed taxes? I’m pretty sure my payslips discounted 27.5% though. And yeah, I also miss 27.5% tax. Ireland’s 52

Oh it doesn’t seem stupid, it totally is. I still remember the surprise when I got my first salary raise and it bumped me from the 20% bracket to the 27.5% bracket and realized I was making less money. It took me another raise to break even

Yes and no. Informal work is generally done by poorer folks. While they should be paying taxes, the Brazilian income tax system penalizes low income earners the most. It’s not a progressive tax system like you find in Europe or the US. When

Pix is a great system and I definitely appreciate what our central bank has done. But what I don’t see people talk about are the other motivations (other than no fees compared to credit cards) The last number I remember is that around 30MM

I'm Brazilian and that doesn't work in our reality if you want to get more people from poorer backgrounds into university so they have a chance at a better life. In the poorer sections of society, most people have to work since th

Your best bet is probably a Pixel with something like GrapheneOS or CalyxOS on it. Android manufacturers suck in terms of long term support. Samsung offers the longest support, but their phones are full of bloat. and they recently passed so

I’ll just add to OP’s point with my own example: I’m a Brazilian that grew up in a middle-class family and sort of “made it” working at multiple FAANG in my 20s. OP is totally right that our education system is broken. I was lucky enough th

ugh, the “look better” part is highly subjective. I’m 29, so sort of young I guess. The main problem I have with modern UIs is the fact that they make icons flat and monochrome. I personally dislike the monochrome part a lot and there’s ple

The whole problem was due to the abuse towards “low skill” workers. Stuff like if you get a job at Subway, you can’t go and work at another deli shop within a certain radius of the former employer. The point of this change is to protect the

I don't get what you're saying here. Swift Data is just a framework to annotate data structures to be stored by Core Data. It looks a lot like an ORM.

I disagree with you. That trailer makes it a lot more appealing to a broader audience. It gave me strong vibes of Nintendo's ads for the Switch and Wii. Even if they can sell VR as a fully immersive experience, I doubt that would be so

I get the feeling that at this point, the best thing Google could do is to go all in an open source their models and weights. They'd canibalize their own business, but they'd easily wipe out most of the competition.

Nice series! One comment though: > The compiler ingests one .c and outputs one .o. It has a low memory footprint. The linker on the other side, must use all the .o files at once to generate the executable. Keeping all these .o in memory

How would that make any difference if the traffic is end to end encrypted, though? Maybe they do something with the metadata, but so can every other messaging service. This paranoia that everything is linked to Russia is just nuts.
