Some commenters here seem to suggest that the advice on that blog post is somewhat outdated or suboptimal. I'm curious, is there something like a commonly agreed on best practice for securing/hardening a modern Ubuntu production web server?

AFAIK, the VMs for testing IE are published by Microsoft. In general I don't think you're allowed to publicly redistribute Windows VM images. Publishing a customized VM image in the AWS or Azure image depots may be allowed though.

Is it legal to publish Windows VM images?

Without extensive documentation I'm not sure it's easier to carefully review these preconfigured images than it is to setup one yourself from scratch. Instead of VM images I wish there was a modular, heavily documented and peer-reviewed scr

Using code for layout has several advantages: - easier version control and code merging - you don't need Interface Builder to review the layout code - code is easier to search, e.g. for the use of certain controls (Xcode doesn't support sea

This all sounds great! I hope you'll be able to offer fine-grained sizes (e.g. something in between S and M) and fits (e.g. something in between normal and slim-fit) and maybe even different colar widths and neckline sizes.

FParsec's OperatorPrecedenceParser component[1] does support adding (and removing) operators to the expression grammar at runtime. [1] http://www.quanttec.com/fparsec/reference/operatorprecedence...

You can change the DPI in Windows. Not all apps properly support high DPI settings, but that probably won't be different on OSX, at least in the beginning. What you can't do in Windows is have different DPI settings for different displays,

Will you be able to configure different DPI settings per monitor on OSX, or will there be some iOS-like implicit 2x scale on retina displays? Otherwise this MacBook might be somewhat awkward to use with a non-"retina" external monitor...

If you're developing company-internal stuff, you can just standardize on one compiler and/or statically link everything.

Without commenting on Node.native, I'd just like to note that C++11 isn't your grandparents' C++ anymore. An experienced programmer probably can write code in C++11 that is almost as elegant as, say, the equivalent C# code. And for larger p

If you've also got Firefox 3.6 or Chrome installed, compare the rendering side-by-side and you should see the difference. There is also http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/791489 and some other web pages reporting this problem.

Does disabling GPS actually save power if no app is trying to use GPS? I thought the GPS receiver only draws power if an app is actually using it.
